Can Lashley Be Taken Seriously?

June 28th, 2009 No comments

Bobby Lashley is FURIOUS

We all know that Lashley has upside, otherwise people wouldn’t be talking about him. Sure, he has potential, but if he keeps fighting bums, it’s tough to take him seriously. On the flip side, should he be commended for taking it slow and picking off sub-par opponents? I don’t think there’s any question of his being another Brock Lesnar, but can he get there one day?

The UFC has said they aren’t paying attention to him, but I wonder if that’s true. I’m sure having him on TUF this season would have been a real test for him and a good lead-in to the UFC, so I don’t know why they didn’t get him on there. I suppose just having Kimbo is enough to generate the buzz that the UFC wanted.

Only time will tell where Lashley will land, but it’s for sure that he’s headed toward a bigger organization. Will he transition to Strikeforce next, or move straight to the UFC? I, for one, would love to see Lashley vs. Rogers.

For what it’s worth, we put out an interview request to Lashley, and we hope for the chance to dive into these questions with him personally.

Round 1
Some punches thrown early, scramble, some ground & pound

Parker is definitely the aggressor in the first round.

Round 2

McLemore has a triangle attempt from the bottom. This round is a bit Indecisive, Parker has the round likely.

Round 3

McLemore, has a nice judo throw (head & arm) Into full guard where Parker reverses, ground & pound

Parker wins by unanimous decision

Round 1
Galle scores a takedown, after catching body kick about 30 secs in.
Galle takes Billot’s back on ground, sinks both hooks wins the round.

Round 2
Billot lands some nice strikes, including a huge head kick
Galle scores a takedown, but Billot gets submission from the bottom

Billiot wins by submission (Guillotine Choke) @ :39 of round 2

Greg Maher vs. Rocky Overstreet

Round 1
Maher begins the round by scoring a takedown and controlling Overstreet on the ground. Maher holds Overstreet down while Overstreet lands a few punches from the guard and locks up a kimura from his back. Maher taps out and the referee stops the fight.

Overstreet wins by submission (Kimura) @ 2:28 of round 1

Eric Graham vs. Drew Wallace

Round 1

After some clinchwork from both fighters, Graham scores a takedown and mounts Wallace. After a scramble ensues, Graham rains down punches from the top while wallace holds his leg from his back.

The fight goes back to the feet where both fighters throw some bombs that find no home and then they both go to the ground. Once on the ground, both fighters are scrambling and grabbing any extremity possible. The round ends with a real sweet knee to the balls from Wallace.

Round 2

This round starts out with some jabs and eventually goes to the ground when Wallace scores a takedown. After about a minute goes by, its clear that this is going to be a complete slobberknocker. Both guys at this point throw haymakers with complete disregard until Wallace falls on top of graham and throws a few hamfists that prompts the referee to stop the fight.

Wallace wins by TKO (Strikes) @ 4:02 of round 2

James Orso vs. Danny Abbadi

Round 1

Fight starts on the feet both fighters trading strikes, Orso scores a takedown and then proceeds to hold Abaddi down for the remainder of the round. He takes turns scoring from the feet and inside Abaddis guard but Orso clearly wins the round.

Round 2

Abaddi throws some big leg kicks barely missing Orsos head to start the round and then they end up in the clinch, Abaddi delivers some elbows to the side of Orso before he is taken down. Orso works from side control as they roll around for the bit and get stood up by the referee. Abaddi scores a few more times in the standup as the horn sounds giving a slight advantage to abaddi.

Round 3

The round starts and after some lazy punches are thrown from the top Abaddi cinches up a gullotine and falls to his back. Abaddi tries real hard to lock this up and seems to nearly get the tap but Orso escapes and starts to point from Abaddis guard. We give this round to Orso as well.

Orso wins by unanimous decision

John Harris vs. Brandon Harder

Round 1

This ones a banger folks, both fighters are throwing caution to the wind and looking to score the homerun. Harder is a bit more cautious and is trying to take down Harris who looks like he is being controlled by a button masher in a street fighter 2 tournament. Harder briefly scores a take down but then its back to the feet where the haymakers continue. The fight eventually goes to the ground where harden finishes strong in almost finishing with a guillotine.

Round 2

The round starts standing but it eventually goes to the ground and Harris quickly gains mount and holds it for the majority of the round. Harder holds on for dear life from the bottom looking to get stood up but Harris escapes and continues to ground and pound. THis continues until Harder reverses position and is able to mount Harris. Harris is clearly gassed out by this point and succumbs to an arm triangle from Harder while laying on his back.

Harder wins by submission (Arm Triangle) @ 4:31 of round 2

Tom Atencio vs. Randy Hedderick

Round 1

Well Ill be damned, Tom Atencio can kinda fight. The first round was action packed with HEdderick clearly getting the better of Atencio on the feet and rocking him numerous times. Atencio maintained his composure and was not finished, pushing this fight to the second round.

Round 2

This fight was a battle on the feet but it was clear that Hedderick was gassing out hardcore. He was smart though to turtle and let Atencio take his back at which time hedderick mounted Atencio but didnt have anything left to finish. They stood back up and finished the round with the advantage to Atencio. While sitting on his stool Hedderick was waved off by the doctor and the fight was called because he was unable to answer the bell.

Atencio wins by TKO @ 5:00 of round 2.

Brett Cooper vs. Waachim Spirit Wolf

The fighters spend most of this round on the feet throwing some punches with nothing landing significantly until Spirit Wolf harnessing the wind and connects with a whammer on the chin of Cooper. Cooper goes down and gets pounded a few more times before the ref stops the fight. Cooper then proceeds to walk around the cage in a daze before he is finally shown to his stool.

Spirit Wolf wins by KO @ 3:48 of round 1

Chris Horodecki vs. William Sriyapai

Round 1

This fight begins and Horodecki is all over Sriyapai in every aspect of the game. They work on the ground and Horodecki clearly has the advantage in the grappling and wrestling angle. He nearly finishes with an RNC about 3 different times before he finally gets one to hold and ends what wasn’t much of a fight at all.

Horodecki wins by submission (Rear Naked Choke) @ 4:02 of round 1

Javier Vasquez vs. Mark Kergosien

Round 1

Well there isn’t much to really say about this fight. Kergosien was a late replacement for Din Thomas and was in WAY over his head for his pro debut against a very skilled Javier Vasquez. They stood up for a bit but Vasquez decided he had enough and dropped to his back with a guillotine well locked in ending the fight. He almost looked guilty when he stood up after winning the fight and called out Din Thomas in his post fight speech.

Vasquez wins by submission (guillotine choke) @ :30 of round 1

Colin McKee vs. Lance Thompson

Round 1

Both guys come out swinging without much control and clearly looking for the KO. They spend most of the time in the clinch but go to the ground where there isnt really anything happening for either fighter.

McKee wins by tapout due to strikes @ 4:16 of round 1

Gilbert Yvel vs. Pedro Rizzo

Round 1

We didnt expect this fight to last long and it certainly didnt, they spent some time on the feet but Rizzo was able to score a takedown and from there he worked on Yvel on the ground. He made the mistake of letting Yvel get back to his feet and then it was whammer time. Yvel rocked Rizzo on his way down and proceeded to hit him 2 more times knocking him clean out.

Yvel wins by KO @ 2:10 of round 1

Bobby Lashley vs. Bob Sapp

Round 1

Well this fight lasted a bit on the feet but then Lashley took Sapp down as we all knew he would. Sapp then spent the next 3 minutes trying to fight off Lashley before he eventually succumbed to strikes and tapped out ending the fight.

Lashley wins by submission (Tapout to Strikes) @ 3:17 of Round 1

This Man Might Kick Tom Atencio’s Ass

June 24th, 2009 No comments

His name is Randy Hedderick, and he is a card dealer at the Treasure Bay Casino, where Ultimate Chaos is going down this weekend. He has a record of 4-3 as an amateur and is listed as 1-0 as a pro, so he must have some idea of what he is doing. Is Atencio going to lose some teeth to prove that he is tougher than Dana White? Who knows, maybe he cranks the hell out of this guy and sends him back to the Pai Gow table.

Ultimate Chaos is rich in storylines that will definitely make some waves in the MMA Universe, and this is just one of the fights everyone is going to be looking out for.

Randy Hedderick

BILOXI, Miss. (June 16, 2009) – Treasure Bay Casino card dealer Randy Hedderick makes his pro debut against Affliction vice president Tom Atencio in a somewhat unusual hyped lightweight match-up June 27th on the “Ultimate Chaos” pay-per-view card live from the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Hedderick faces the best known 1-0-0 MMA fighter in the business, Atencio, who is the face of Affliction Entertainment, which has promoted two mega-MMA PPV shows with another, “Trilogy,” scheduled August 1, as well as UFC president Dana White’s outspoken archrival.

“This is a huge opportunity for me,” nearby Gulfport (Miss) resident Hedderick acknowledged in between training and working as a card dealer at Treasure Bay. “I’ve been working hard and training non-stop. So many people have come up to me saying, ?Beat his ass,’ and that’s what I’m going to try and do. I’m a stand-up fighter – boxing and Samba – but I’ve been learning Muay Tai. I’m a brawler who lives for the Fight of the Night. I’m looking for that to happen and to win by knockout.

“There’s huge interest in our fight. A lot of people at the casino have mentioned it to me and after the press conference, I ‘Googled’ myself and saw that I was all over the place. I must admit, I do have a few Affliction T-shirts, but my girlfriend bought them for me. I’m enjoying this and can’t wait to get in the cage with Tom. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for me.”

For Atencio the fight is a labor of love, a nice release from his everyday pressures associated with Affliction. “I love this sport,” Tom explained. “I grew-up fighting as a young kid and really enjoy it. I was the youngest kid in a Mexican family – fighting is in our blood – and I was the one getting beaten up for a while. Training is much harder than any job I’ve ever worked. Your body is put through hell and I’m 42 now. Training is what makes me have so much respect for fighters. I’m pushing my body and that’s not easy at my age.

“This is probably my last fight, but it really depends on how I feel afterwards. I’d like to fight again. My last fight was October of last year. I had a Muay Thai amateur fight and came out of it with a broken rib and nose. I know Randy’s a tough kid who had a good amateur record. He works at Treasure Bay and I’m really looking forward to stepping in against him.”
