NMMF: Andrew, this is your first time fighting for Tachi Palace, a well respected promotion in the area, how do you feel about being at this level?
AV: Tachi palace is the place to be for the 125ers I’m glad I finally got my foot in the door. Level-wise I feel like I’m ready to shake up this 125 division. Hopefully I can make this my new home.

NMMF: Tell us about your background and a little bit about your training and gym.
AV:My background: I’m a 100% Cung Le fighter Sanshou fighter, I love to stand-and-bang. Training has been good; we have a strong tough team at Cung Le ADA and we had a few fighters fighting the same month as me, so we all help each other out.

NMMF:Martin Sandoval is a very game competitor, how do you see this playing out?
AV:Martin Sandoval is a good wrestler. His stand-up isn’t as good as mine; once we trade and feels it he will start shooting in but I’m ready to stuff the takedowns. If he stands-and-bangs I dont see him making it past the first round.

NMMF:What was the defining moment that convinced you that MMA was your path?
AV: Defining moment I always wanted to be an mma fighter: when I was young I told Cung Le that’s what I wanted to do. He said once I turn 18 he will get me in the cage. MMA is taking over and I love the sport.

NMMF:Thank you for your time, Andrew. Do you have anyone you’d like to thank?
AV: I would like to thank my mom, Bertha Kimrey. Without her I wouldn’t be a fighter. Also Cung Le and my corner Sal Gallardo, Javier Gonzales, and Jane Estioko. I can’t forget Sponsors: Knoxx, En Tu Cara, GFY, R&R Refuse Routine. I give a  shou-out to Cung Le and thank you for the interview

Press Release | Tuff-N-Uff | Two Fights coming Memorial Day Weekend

May 25th, 2010 No comments

NextMMAFighter will be in attendance for both fights that TuffNUff.net are putting on in Las Vegas this weekend. We will be bringing live results, photographs and behind the scenes interviews. The press release is below and more information as we get it.

Tuff-N-Uff announces two fight cards for Memorial Day weekend’s MMA extravaganza

One of the biggest weekends in mixed martial arts history just got even bigger.

Memorial Day weekend 2010 has long been circled on many fight fans’ calendars, as the Ultimate Fighting Championship brings “UFC 114: Jackson vs. Evans” to Las Vegas, along with the second annual UFC Fan Expo.

Now, Las Vegas’ top amateur mixed martial arts promotion, TuffNUff.net, brings even more mixed martial arts action to the weekend as the organization returns to the Orleans Hotel & Casino for not one, but two separate action-packed fight cards.

Tuff-N-Uff invades the Orleans Hotel & Casino’s Mardi Gras Ballroom on Friday night, May 28, and then returns for even more fighting action on Sunday evening, May 30.

Included among the weekend’s contests will be a 115-pound female title fight between undefeated Missouri resident Ashley Cummins (4-0) and the hard-hitting Gabriella Lakoczky (1-1), as are appearances by five-time Tuff-N-Uff veteran Jimmy Spicuzza (4-2), undefeated Xtreme Couture prospect Jake Swinney (2-0), and UFC president Dana White’s cousin, Justin Vadnais (0-2).

Ticket information and full fight cards for both events will be available shortly. When released, tickets will be available at the Orleans Hotel & Casino’s box office or online at OrleansCasino.com and TuffNUff.net.

Cummins, who trains with the Vaghi MMA team in St. Louis, debuted for Tuff-N-Uff on April 23 and earned a hard-fought, split-decision win over the previously undefeated Cathy Snell. Cummins’ aggressive ground-and-pound attack, coupled with capable submission defense as she fought off a series of choke attempts on the floor, earned her the win and the shot at the vacant 115-pound title.

Meanwhile, Wand Fight Team product Lakoczky earned her spot in the championship fight with a first-round TKO win over Sarah Goodlaxson in March. The Swedish slugger opened in her typical aggressive fashion and rained down blows on her downed opponent to force the stoppage.

Spicuzza debuted for Tuff-N-Uff in 2008, and the Excel Defense-trained fighter has since been involved in a number of memorable fights under the Tuff-N-Uff banner. Spicuzza bounced back from an August 2009 submission loss to budding professional Ryan Couture with a third-round TKO victory over Oron Kahlon in March.

Swinney made his amateur debut in January with a first-round submission win over Tommy Gavin. The 30-year-old followed up the performance with a triangle choke finish of John Robinson in February. Swinney’s two submission finishes have come in just 3:03 of ring time.

Vadnais seeks his first MMA after two unsuccessful trips to the ring. The 30-year-old was knocked out by Chris Barden in October 2009 – a result that incited a war of words between Barden and Larry Mir that will soon be settled in the Tuff-N-Uff ring – and he suffered a third-round submission loss to Alex Brooks in January.

In additional action, a pair of undefeated lightweights meet as Spiritwolf MMA’s Paul Blancaflor (2-0) faces Fasi Sports’ Jungwon Kim (1-0), while explosive Hawaiian slugger Jake Ka’awa (3-1) faces Throwdown featherweight Jace Crawford (1-1).

In addition to the weekend’s featured matchups, a full lineup of aspiring amateur fighters from some of the world’s top academies, including Excel Defense, Fasi Sports, Striking Unlimited, TapouT Las Vegas, Wand Fight Team and Xtreme Couture will compete at Tuff-N-Uff’s dual Memorial Day weekend events.

Come see the future stars of mixed martial arts.

In addition to the in-ring activities, Tuff-N-Uff also has a full slate of entertaining events scheduled for fight week.

The fun starts on Thursday, May 20, with the Tuff-N-Uff ring girl search at Blush Boutique Nightclub in one of the Las Vegas Strip’s most elegant properties, The Wynn Las Vegas. Doors open at 9 p.m., and local ladies are always free.

Come watch (or compete) as some of Las Vegas’ most beautiful women battle it out for one of three available contracts to appear as a Tuff-N-Uff ring girl. All contestants receive a champagne open bar between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. Additionally, the winner earns $500, second place gets $300, and third place nets $200.

Ladies interested in competing should send their contact information to waynec@lasvegasnightgroup.com.

Then, directly following both Friday and Sunday’s fight cards, the Deja Vu Ultra Lounge hosts the official Tuff-N-Uff after-parties. The evening’s fights will be replayed on Deja Vu’s big screens so you can relive the highlights while enjoying Las Vegas’ best nightlife.

Located just across the street from the Orleans Hotel & Casino, Deja Vu is at 4740 Arville St. in Las Vegas.
