Featured Fighter Interview | Ran Weathers | Jacksons Submission Fighting

ranweathers

Sponsored Fan fighter Ran Weathers will fight this Saturday in Virginia as the co-main event in Battle of the Burg: Redemption. This card is looking like it’s going to be a good one, with many recognizable names including Bryan Goldsby and Freddy Assuncao from the Atlanta area. We caught up with Ran as he gets ready to fight on Saturday night. Gofightlive will also be providing an internet PPV for the event.

NextMMAFighter: Ran, thanks for taking the time to talk to us. Tell us how your final preparations are coming along for Saturday night.

Ran Weathers: Training is going well; I have been doing a lot of wrestling drills. Besides that, I’m just trying to get my mind right!

NextMMAFighter: You fight out of Jackson’s Submission Fighting, a very highly decorated MMA School. What’s it like to train there?

RW: I hate it… Mexicans everywhere!! (laughs) I’m just playing, its great! Great teammates and coaches — it’s definitely the place to be!

NextMMAFighter: With a fight that’s scheduled for early in the new year, how do you deal with training through the holidays?

RW: It’s not hard for me: I use the anger as motivation.

NextMMAFighter: You’re matched up with a hometown guy who will have a lot of support from the crowd. How do you deal with being the bad guy?

RW: Once again, see the answer above!! I’ll just have to play my game and do my thing.

NextMMAFighter: As a seasoned pro, what are some of your goals going forward in your career?

RW: One obvious goal comes to mind, and that is to get signed to a top organization.

NextMMAFighter: Although you train out in New Mexico, your home is in Atlanta. How do you feel the fight scene is developing in the Southeast?

RW: I think it’s going good for sure. I remember, when I started, it was more of a freak show that people watched, rather than competed. But now its “cool” to be a fighter, so everybody wants to be one.

NextMMAFighter: Back in 2008, you fought in back-to-back days, and in your amateur career you had two fights in two days as well. What was that like?

RW: When I last fought back-to-back, I was drunk for both days, so it wasn’t that big of a deal. And when I was an amateur I didn’t know any better, so ignorance was bliss.

NextMMAFighter: How do you see the fight playing out on Saturday night?

RW: I have only two words to describe the fight on Saturday: aggressive and fast!

NextMMAFighter: I think the fans are in for a show on Saturday, and we wish you luck on the fight. In closing, is there anyone you would like to thank?

RW: I want to thank Tapout, Full-Tilt Poker, VPX, Brawl Nutrition, BAMF Mouthguards, and my management team at Sponsored Fan. I also want to give a special shoutout to my teammates! Y’all sit back and watch the show!
