February 27th, 2010 2 comments

NextMMAFighter.com is coming to you with live coverage once again. We are at Center Stage in Atlanta, Ga for some Muay Thai and MMA action.

This sold out crowd is active and very excited to be here. The crowd is packed at one of my favorite venues in Atlanta. Romeo, the announcer, is one of the funniest, charismatic announcers we’ve seen. Khunpon of Bangkok Fight Night does a really great job with his promotion.

Wayne Barrett 185lbs vs. Jessie Williams 182.5lbs – Ammy Muay Thai – 185lbs

2 very strong competitors meet in the middle and trade some leg and push kicks. Jesse is throwing the stiffer kicks but Wayne finds success with a flurry of punches. Wayne tries to keep out of range of Jesse’s kicks but Jesse stalks him. Wayne is using a counter strategy and it seems to be working. Jesse is unable to mount an offense as Wayne eludes him. Wayne counters a push kick with some body blows and they clinch. Wayne disengages with a few punches, a 1-2 that land clean. Jesse comes after Wayne but can’t seem to land anything when Wayne rocks Jesse with a flurry of punches. Jesse survives the 8-count and the round ends.

Jesse gets up only to be knocked down soon after. Jesse is resilient and keeps pushing the action but Wayne turns the heat up and lands another big flurry of punches to finish Jesse.

He gets into half guard before the time runs out.

Round 3 begins with Daniel swinging for the fences. Daniel lands a good left hook tot he injured eye of Rubel and Rubel is stunned. Rachel comes out with a body kick and clinches quick to deliver some knees. Rachel is smothering Allison with kicks and punches and locks her in a clinch again until separated. Allison is unable to land anything significant while Rachel continues her barrage of strikes to the body and head. Rachel seems to slow down toward the end of the round but still delivers stiff punches and kicks. Allison also tires from the continued punishment and the round ends.

Round 2 Rachel lands some good punches but Allison won’t go down without a fight Allison creates some space and throws some push kicks that keep the distnace. Rachel is able to get close with some punch combos and clinch again. Allison attempt some knees of her own but is losing in the exchange. After being separated from a clinch Rachel is able to deliver some more punches. The round ends with the action following the same formula.

Round 3 Rachel dominates the standup some more with punch combos that rock Allison,… i’m being assaulted by a drunk woman from he first row that is calling for knockouts and touching me a lot. i’m having a terrible time trying to follow the fight. Rachel is a cardio machine, though and the pace barely slows up. The 3rd round ends with, what I find out is her mother, almost yaking on me.

Featured Fighter Interview – Clint Hester

November 12th, 2009 No comments

Clint Hester

Clint Hester is an absolutely electric fighter that I have had the pleasure to watch fight in person twice. He brings some serious standup to the cage and is currently undefeated in his MMA Career. He will look to get one step closer to winning the Redline Grand Prix when he steps into the cage on Friday night at Sin City Fight Night. We got a chance to speak with him as he makes his final preparations for his big fight.

NextMMAFighter : Thanks for taking the time to talk with us Clint. It’s only a few days until your fight now, what are your last minute preparations and or superstitions you follow for a big fight.

Clint Hester : I just relax and think about different ways the fight can go and how I will react to each situation.

NextMMAFighter : Your opponent is Douglas Lima, who you have had a chance to watch fight quite often because he is also a Atlanta area fighter. How do you think this helps you gameplan for this bout?

Clint Hester : Well, he has been at 170, so I had no clue that I would ever get a chance to fight him. But I have seen him fight a couple times and he has a lot of talent.

NextMMAFighter : You are competing in the Redline Grand Prix which is a tournament that will result in a $10,000 grand prize. Do you use the grand prize as motivation for the fight or is it just another day at the office for you?

Clint Hester : This is my career, so I am fighting for the money. But it’s what I love to do, so I would not trade my career in for any other in the world.

NextMMAFighter : In the first round you defeated Aaron “Tex” Johnson who is a great fighter and a guy you know as we could see when you squared up before your last fight. Is it difficult to fight someone that you consider as a friend and or former training partner?

Clint Hester : Man, when you step in the cage and it has to do with my future. I’m always coming hard, whoever the opponent, we can go party together afterwards.

NextMMAFighter : As an undefeated fighter you have yet to taste defeat. Many veteran fighters say there’s alot to gain from a loss. Do you believe this to be true?

Clint Hester : It is very true that you learn more from a loss than you do from a win. I know what it feels like to lose in combat sports, so that has helped me with my MMA career.

NextMMAFighter : As a professional fighter who fights out of X3 where you are also an instructor, how does it help you as a fighter to teach others.

Clint Hester : When you’re teaching others you get a much better understanding of why you make the moves you make. Anyone can learn how to throw a simple jab-cross but you have to know why you throw the jab-cross to be a great fighter

NextMMAFighter : In Mixed Martial Arts, having the tools of many fighting styles at your disposal is important. What parts of your game are you looking to get better at to become a more complete fighter.

Clint Hester : I need to improve on all of my game, some parts more than others, but I have a lot of room to grow. From my ground to my stand up, I have a lot of experience to gain.

NextMMAFighter : Who are some of your favorite fighters, past or present and why?

Clint Hester : I love watching Urijah Faber and Floyd Mayweather because they train hard, are smart fighters, and, no matter who they fight, they train like it’s their last fight.

NextMMAFighter : What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the ring when you aren’t training?

Clint Hester : I love music. I work with with a group of artists who are up and coming in the music game. I also love teaching the kids in my sports training classes and youth boxing classes at X3 Sports.

NextMMAFighter : We wish you the best of luck on Friday night and know you will be well supported by X3. In closing, is there anyone else you would like to thank?

Clint Hester : I want to thank X3 Sports, Tony Tucci, Ranieri Paiva, Mike Littrel, Megan Swartzlander, all of my training partners who have pushed and helped me to get ready. I couldn’t do this without all of the people who support me in whatever I do.

Best of luck on Friday Clint, it’s going to be a great fight! For tickets to see Clint fight on Friday night in Atlanta, you can get them here. http://www.sincityfightclub.com/tickets.html

Event Recap | Sin City Fight Night in Atlanta, GA 5-30-09

June 1st, 2009 No comments

So these guys have apparently been doing fights for a little while now. But since I’m new in the game of covering local fights, I haven’t heard much of them.

Their intermission left a bit to be desired, including a movie one of their sponsors was pimping called Lynch Mob, which boasted the tagline “If you see only one mafia cannibal zombie movie this year, make sure its LYNCH MOB.” During a break in the fights, they showed the preview 14 times in a row to make sure everyone understood how ridiculous it was.

Think I’m bullshitting? Well then you don’t know me well enough to realize that I seriously could not make this shit up.

As for the fights, there were plenty of quick finishes and fighters that we are going to be looking out for. Warren Thompson continued his winning ways and finished another fight by submission in the first round thus improving his record to 3-0. Ururahy Rodrigues won again and this guy is an absolute killer from what we have seen so far. I have been able to witness both of his fights as a pro and tonight’s finish in under 1 minute brings his career fight time to 56 seconds through 2 fights. There isn’t much more to say besides we are going to keep a close on on Ururahy’s progression and look to feature him before his next pro bout.

Clint Hester is a local Atlanta fighter that was taking on Roberto Traven trained and BET Iron Ring winner Dymond Jones. This fight took place at a frenzied pace and both guys really left it all out there. Hester was more focused on the feet and used his striking power to knock down and eventually TKO Jones in the closing minutes of round 2. Hester advances his record to 2-0 and hes definitely a fighter to watch.

Aaron “Tex” Johnson deserves a mention not because we believe he is the Next big fighter in MMA, but because it is real clear that he gets in the cage to hurt people. We have now watched this guy armbar / try to break the shit out of his last opponents arm and Kneebar his opponent tonight in under a minute. I fear for Aaron Johnson being able to get a fight if he continues to destroy guys like this so just take it easy buddy. Also, you can interpret my above statements however you want, but the bottom like is we know this dude is crazy and I cant wait to see him fight again.

Official results of the event can be found below.

AMATEUR BOUTS Fight scheduled for 3×3 minute rounds
Stephen Upchurch Vs. Qays Stekevich | Upchurch Wins by Split Decision
