Live Coverage Gameness Fighting Championships 7 | Nashville, TN 6-19-10

We are coming to you live cageside from Gameness Fighting Championships 7 in Nashville, TN. The fight card is stacked and features undefeated strikeforce veteran Dustin Ortiz. Stay tuned all night long for live round by round summaries and fight results. Pictures and video interviews will be posted following the fights.

Round 1
The round begins with Smith charging across the cage and Johnson meets him with a guillotine. Johnson s then able to transition to mount where he delivers some strikes when Smith is able to sweep. Smith moves into position for an RNC which he is able to sink in ending the fight.

145lbs Dave Hurst vs. Anthony Jones

Round 1
The fight is underway as Jones jumps on top of Hurst to setup a guillotine and Hurst slams them both to the ground. Once on the ground however, Hurst is able to sweep Jones and end up with a high mount where he works for an arm triangle. Jones defends but is unable to stop Hurst from pulling off a great armbar from this position for the finish.

170lbs Chris Barnheizer vs. Ty Troutman

Round 1
The fight is underway as Barnheizer shoots in for a shot and finishes it with a leg sweep. Once on the ground he works from side control and troutmans guard. From here Barnheizer is able to mount Troutman and take his back, ending the fight by RNC as Troutman taps out.

150lbs Luke Sanders vs, Anthony Rettic

Round 1
The round begins with a feeling out process which is followed by Rettic delivering some solid punches as Sanders looks for a shot which isnt there. The standup continues with Sanders throwing some leg kicks until he is able to finish a big double leg takedown. Sanders delivers some ground and pound shots before time on the round runs out.

Round 2
Rettic is clearly looking for the KO as Sanders wants to take him down. Sanders is obliterating Rettic with inside leg legs and most of the round plays out this way with Sanders as the aggressor in Round 2 for sure.

Round 3
Sanders backs Rettic up against the cage and is able to use it to hip toss him into a takedown. Sanders is clearly comfortable on the ground and delivers some strikes to the head as Rettic is looking for an opportunity to sweep. The round comes to an end as Sanders controls Rettic on the ground until the closing bell.

Sanders wins by unanimous decision

170lbs Gregory Taylor vs. Christopher Reece

Round 1
The round begins with both fighters looking for bombs on the feet. Taylor is able to get Reece to the ground with the help of the cage but Reece ends up on top and throws some strikes from the top. The two fighters look to stand while against the cage when Reece surprises everyone by sinking in a super slick armbar from the back door bringing the fight to an end.

205lbs Dante Lawson vs. Sonny Cline

Round 1
Cline comes out swinging wildly as Lawson is looking to beat him with precision and weather the early flurry of wild punches. Lawson works Cline up against the cage but then lands a big knee to the weener. Once the fight is restarted Lawson delivers some shots and is able to shoot for a takedown which Cline stifles with a guillotine attempt. They move to the ground where Lawson is able to mount Cline and deliver some strikes from the top as Cline covers up and the referee stops the fight.

Lawson wins by TKO (Strikes) @ 2:08 of Round 1

170lbs Dave Cook vs. Ronnie Mello

Round 1
Ronnie Mello starts the fight by running right at Cook and Cook evades as Mello throws wild shots. Cook is able to slow down the fast striking Mello and attempt to sink in a gullotine from the front as both fighters drop to their knees. They go back to their feet where Mello is throwing everything at Cook including spinning back fists and the kitchen sink. They go to the ground where Mello is looking for a schoolyard choke as Cook escapes and the round ends.

Round 2
Mello is able to take Cook down and again work from side control as Cook slips out the back door and puts Mello in his guard. From here Mello postures up to go for a guillotine which Cook defends. Cook then postures up and starts to deliver some shots from the top as Mello pulls him back down into his guard and holds on for the remainder of the round.

Round 3
Cook works a Thai Clinch as Mello tries to get away after taking some big knees. Cook is able to finish a takedown as Mello holds him in his guard. Cook works in the guard as both fighters wrestle to a stalemate. Once back on the feet, both fighters are throwing combos as Mello grabs and then hip tosses Cook ending the round in a big way and bringing the fight to a close.

Mello wins by unanimous decision

155lbs Chris Camacho vs. Angelo Gisante

Round 1
The fight begins and Gisante is working a 1-2 combo which backs Camacho into the cage. Camacho meets Gisante’s offering with a flurry of punches that look like something out of street fighter 2. Seriously, this kid punches ridiculously fast. They continue to trade until Camacho delivers a big leg kick to the guts which Gisante doesnt like at all. Gisante takes Camacho down and works for an arm triangle from side control. Camacho defends and sweeps Gisante to land in halfguard as Gisante reaches for a guillotine. They both move back to the feet and trade punches until the round is called.

Round 2
Round 2 begins and it doesn’t take long before Camacho staggers Gisante with a huge right cross and follows him to the ground for the finishing blow. The ref jumps in and does a great job to prevent any more damage to Gisante who is on the ground and clearly rocked.

Camacho wins by KO @ :07 of R2

185lbs Charles Mc Torry vs. Caleb Flanagan

Round 1
The fighters are looking for something on the feet as they trade combos with Torry looking to finish in spectacular fashion. He is throwing absolute haymakers and event looks for some spinning heel kicks. Flanagan comes in with a flurry of punches as Torry clips him with a left hand on his way in. McTorry is getting the best of the standup for sure and lands a big left that lands on Flanagan clean. The punch sends him to the ground where he puts his hands up but the referee has already called a stop to the fight.

McTorry wins by KO in R1

170lbs Kenny Degenhart vs. Josh Phelps

Round 1
The fight begins and Degenhart throws a couple punches which causes him to lose his balance. Phelps follows him to the cage but Degenhart recovers as they wrestle for position. Degenhart is able to take down Phelps with the help from the cage and moves to his back. Degenhart continues to work hard for an RNC which Phelps fights off the first time, but it isn’t long before he gives in to the second attempt.

160lbs JC Cuffee vs. James Foster

Round 1
The fight starts and Foster shoots in for a takedown. This proves to be a terrible idea as Cuffee counters his takedown attempt with a monster guillotine ending the fight at 7 seconds of round one.

225lbs Ashley Gooch vs. Elias Donker

The fight begins and Gooch is able to wrestle Donker to the ground where he is controlling him from every position. As the round continues Donker is able to eventually to get back to his feet and pin Gooch against the cage. From this position Gooch is able to work his way out and bust the guts with a knee which Donker responds to with a takedown attempt. Gooch sprawls and fights off Donker to bring the round to a close.

Round 2
Round 2 begins. Donker is obviously tired and immediately begins the fight by going for a takedown which gooch sprawls out of, ending in a great position to control a very tired Donker. Gooch transitions to his back and looks to sink in the RNC which Donker is defending by turtling up. Donker flattens himself out as Gooch looks for a way to finish from the back. Both fighters are definitely tired and looking for this fight to end one way or another.

Round 3
The crowd is behind Gooch and this fight continues to be played out on the ground as Donker turtles again while Gooch looks for a way to finish him. Gooch moves from his back to a crucifix position which Donker is able to escape from only to take some more punishment from Gooch who is glued to his back. They stand up for a brief time before Gooch slams him down once again and controls him on the ground until the fight ends.

Gooch wins by unanimous decision

135lbs Spencer Serivner vs. Steve Chico

The fight begins and Chico shoots in for a double leg which Serivner meets with a guillotine attempt. Both fights go back to the feet with Chico throwing some big leg kicks, Serivner rushes him against the cage and continues to control him with a Thai clinch. Chico wrestles him off the cage and then puts Serivner on his back where he delivers some shots from the top that Serivner eats before he sweeps Chico, landing in side control. Chico forces Serivner to half guard as Serivner continues to try to pass to mount. Chico turtles as Serivner holds on to a guillotine from the top as the round ends.

Round 2
Both fighters are content on clinching and breaking to throw combos trying to catch the other napping. Serivner is able to control Chico as he pins him up against the cage.
They go to the ground where Serivner takes Chicos back and works for an RNC which Chico defends as he sweeps Serivner again. They come back to the feet and end up against the cage when Serivner drops to his knees for a shot as Chico drills him with an illegal knee sending him to the canvas. Serivner is super rocked and unable to continues thus declaring him the winner by disqualificiation.

Serivner wins by Disqualification (Illegal Knee to the Face) in R2

125lbs Justin Pennington vs. Cory Alexander

Penning starts the round by shooting in on Alexander who sprawls as they both end on on the ground. Once there, Pennington is looking for something from the top as Alexander looks to finish with a submission of his own from his back. They go back to the feet but Alexander again takes down Pennington pins him against the cage as he postures up for strikes from the top. Pennington is able to sweep but Alexander is again comfortable on his back as he works for an armbar and triangle as the round comes to a close.

Round 2
The fight continues as the fighters both go to the ground once again and are looking for a finish from this position. Its a great fight on the ground and awesome display of jiu jitsu and wrestling as both fighters look for a way to end the fight by submission . Alexander ends up in Pennington guard and postures up to deliver some shots but Pennington is doing a great job of defending as Pennington sweeps and again ends in Alexanders guard but he backs up to try and throw some shots of his own. The round comes to an end as two super technical fighters are putting in a great display of ground work.

Round 3
The round begins and Alexander shoots in for a takedown which he completes as both fighters go to the ground , from here Alexander is able to works his way to Pennington’s back where he finishes the fight by RNC.

135lbs Dustin Ortiz vs. Forrest Beard

Both fighters start on the feet and exchange shots but it isn’t long before Ortiz, who is clearly the aggressor takes Beard to the ground. Once they are on the mat, Ortiz makes it look as easy he transitions to Beards back looking for the RNC. As beard defends the RNC, Ortiz postures up and delivers strikes from the top until the referee ends the bout.

Rashad throws a leg kick to start and Jonothan gives him space. Rashad approaches for some close punches that Jonothan is able to weather. Jonothan returns with a combo of his own and downs Rashad. Rashad rolls back to get back to standing but Jonothan is quick and attaches a guillotine quickly. Rashad works to escape but is unable and taps.

Donta Jones Force Fitness 265 2–0 MMA

Robert Neal Team Hammer 265 2–0 MMA


Robert starts with a headkick that misses and Donta rushes immediately pressing Robert to the cage. Donta gets the takedown and works to mount. Robert sweeps him and works for position. Donta is able to get back on top but nearly gets caught in a triangle. Donta escapes and passes guard. Robert is able to get back to guard and subsequently lock in an armbar.

Luis Rivera Toe 2 Toe 145 1–0 MMA

Lyle Ragsdale Hard Knox 145 0–0 MMA


Lyle exhibits some crisp boxing to start and lands a couple good punches on Luis’s face. Lyle goes for the takedown but Luis maintains his composure and stays standing. Lyle backs up and throws a few more combos that land well. Luis has a tough chin and is still lucid. Luis backs Lyle off and lands a loud-slapping head kick. Luis follows up with a combo and Lyle drops for a takedown. Lyle gets into Luis’s half-guard and they work for position. Luis is able to push Lyle off and as they get to standing Lyle lands a punch on his downed opponent.

Round 2 Lyle lands a couple punches early on and takes Luis down. Lyle is able to get the mount and work strikes to the body in this Amateur bout. Lyle postures for an armbar and drops to the side to secure it. Luis stacks him and gets the arm out. Luis stands and kicks the lower body of his downed opponent. Both fighters stand and stalemate till the end of the round.

Round 3 Luis attacks with a superman punch and follow up left. Lyle is stunned but returns the attack and drops for the takedown. Lyle dominates the ground game and Luis is just looking to survive. Luis rolls out the backdoor to stand and Lyle jumps on his back. They come to the ground and Lyle maintains this back with both hooks in until the round expires.

Elias and Jake are both 15 and their lack of discipline shows a bit when they come out to stand and wang. Elias is throwing some straight t punch combos and clinching for a knee while Jake throws a straight right to load up a heavy left hook. They trade wild punches and knees for the remainder of the round.

Round 2 Elias find an early advantage and gets Jake against the cage. Jake retaliates with WILD looping haymakers. Jake attacks with a series of his favorite left hook and just plain punches himself out. Elias is constantly on the attack and wearing on Jake further.

Round 3 Jake comes on the attack and wears Elias down some. Elias survives the onslaught and comes back at Jake with more straight punches and knees to the body. Jake is looking for a homerun with that left hook but is not finding home. Elias finds Jake in deep water towards the end of round 3 and finishes with big shots. Elias is unable to finish him before the round ends.

Darrell Scott Gennesis 185 0–0 MMA

Clay Bennett Intense 185 1–0 MMA


Darrell looks to get the action to the ground early. He’s got a wrestling build and uses it to get Clay to the ground. Clay managed to scramble out and nearly get to standing but Darrell kept his cool and got back to a dominant position. Clay rolled out for a leg and attempts a knee bar. Darrell defends and works punches to the body until time runs out.

Clay attempts a head kick at the beginning of the second round that Darrell catches and gets them both back to the ground. They scramble and Darrell takes Clay’s back and works for a RNC. Clay keeps his composure and sweeps to top position in half guard. Darrell gets to standing and back over Clay in half guard. Darrell goes through a half dozen dominant positions before getting Clay into a North South position and choke.

Russell Benes Cooks Impact 165 3-3-2 MMA


Eric maintains distance with push kicks and kicks to the body. Russell is looking for an opening but Eric is an accomplished muay thai fighter. Russell manages to get in close and get a body lock. They are separated after an illegal low blow by Russell. Toe to Toe Eric continues to command the striking game. Eric keeps Russell at bay for the remainder of the round.

Round 2 Russell lets his hands go a little bit and got Eric on the defensive. Eric reset and threw some push kicks to keep Russell back. Russell stuns Eric with a big shot and goes on the attack stalking him all over the cage. Eric lands a wile looping punch and likewise stuns Russell. They close and clinch to trade some blows to the body. Russell manages a body lock and drags Eric to the ground. Russell works to mount and locks in a triangle just as time expires for the round.

Round 3 Russell has some new found confidence and is pressing the action. Eric returns with body kicks. Russell closes and lands a solid left hook to stagger Eric. Eric retreats but Russell closes and lands another that drops Eric to the ground. Eric is given an 8 count and they get back to the fight. Russell lands some more strong shots that bloody his opponent. Russell gets Eric’s back and puts him in a RNC that ends the fight just before the ring of the final bell.

Randolph Tutt X3 215+ 0–0 MMA


Tutt is the aggressor here and throws a number of strikes to start. Scott goes for a takedown but is unable to complete. From standing Tutt lands a body knee that Scott looks hurt by. Scott goes for another takedown that Tutt sprawls out of. Tutt is able to put Scott in a shoulder lock and submit him in the first round.

John Downing Cooks Impact 170 1–0 MMA

Tyler Sibling Genisses 170 0–0 MMA


John lands a solid leg kick to start and Tyler shoots for a takedown. John manhandles him to the ground and stands back up. John lands some strikes while standing and Tyler shoots again. John sprawls out of the takedown and gets to standing again. This process repeats until Tyler is able to put John in his guard. John works to pass guard while Tyler works for a kimura to submit or pass. The ref stands them after some time in this position.

This round they trade some leg kicks to start. John finds some success with a flurry and Tyler clinches. John drops him with an illegal slam and they reset. Tyler gets them to the ground again and John is nearly able to pull off a hammer lock before Tyler rolls for a leg lock. John defends the leg lock and improves his position to take Tyler’s back. John comes over the top and locks in an armbar just before the bell rings.

3rd round John and Tyler meet in the middle and they find the ground quickly. John wins the scramble and gets into top position. John worked for an armbar that missed and Tyler was able to take his back. John explodes and gets back into Tyler’s guard. The fight ends soon after.

Triston Dooley Cooks Impact 265 2–0 MMA

Tory Barkley X3 270 1–0 MMA


They open with a pair of leg kicks and clinch quickly. Triston works t body and Tory is able to lock in a guillotine. Triston defends but Tory trips him sand they drop the way 600 pounds of man should HARD. Tory maintains half guard over Triston and works for submissions or better position. The round ends in this position.

Tory scores more leg kicks at the beginning of the 2nd round and lands a spinning back kick to Triston’s mid section. Tory shoots for a single and gets top position. Triston moves to escape and Tory takes this back. Triston is able to stand and they trade more strikes. Tory is visibly gassing and makes a desperate shot Triston sprawls out of. Triston stands again and is on the attack. Tory manages a trip and lands on Triston’s back. Tory locks in a RNC just as the bell rings.

Tory works more low kicks and follows up with clinchwork. Triston manages to land a headkick to a tired Tory and they clinch again. After some inactivity the ref separates them and they get back to fighting. Triston lands a solid right hand and downs Tory. The ref steps in and calls the fight.

Josh Downing Cooks Impact 155 5–3 MMA


Josh slow plays the start of the fight and lulls Greg nearly to sleep. Josh lashes out with quick strikes but Greg has done nothing. Josh unleashes another attack and Greg meets him. They clinch and Josh hits him with some knees. Greg manages to shrug him off and they go back to their dance. Greg’s confidence is building and lands a right that backs Josh off. Josh retaliates with a right hook that floors Greg and stops the fight.

Daniel Norton Toe2Toe 205 4–0 MMA

Jerico Lathem 1440 Combat 205 3–1 MMA


The fighters tentatively feel each other out for the first minute or so. Dan finds paydirt with a flurry. Jerico closes to clinch and Dan drops him for the takedown. Dan works to half guard and eventually gets his leg up over Jerico’s shoulder. Dan rains down blows to the head until finally moving for an armbar just as time expires.

Jerico lands a big right early in the 2nd that only infuriates Dan. Dan unleashes a flurry and backs up. Dan approaches for another flurry and Jerico returns with a combination. Dan clinches and gets the takedown getting him into mount. Dan resumes the position he was in at the end of the first. Dan misses the armbar but is able to lock Jerico in a triangle. Jerico taps just before the end of the round treating us to an elusive submission finish before the bell.

Joseph Cornroli Upstate Karate 170 4–1 MMA
VS
Steele McCall X3 170 6–1 MMA


Joe is circling with his hands pretty low. He’s a quick guy so it doesn’t seem to hurt him right now. Steel shoots for a single and Joe defends it well. They work against the fence for a bit and Steel is unable to complete the takedown. Joe drops for a body shot that lands clean and he closes. Joe gets the takdeown and works in side control. Steel scrambles out and gets a single of his own. Steel completes the takedown and works for a guillotine early. Joe defends but gives up position just before the bell rings.

2nd round Joe looses some strikes and Steel goes for another takedown. Joe stays on top and eventually stands. Joe then goes for his own takedown and works from half guard. Joe is unable to put anything together and they stand. They close and go to the ground again. Joe is able to mount Steel just before the round ends.

Joe commands the stand-up here and soon closes to clinch; Joe takes them down and works for a submission. Steel gets a favorable position and nearly seals an armbar. Joe manages to stand and dominate the rest of the fight.

Live Event Coverage | Clash at the Coliseum | 4-24-10 Carrolton, GA

We will be coming to you live cageside at 8pm EST for Clash at the Coliseum presented by Black and Blue Entertainment.

Tickets are still available at the door so if you’re in driving distance be sure to head on down. Otherwise stay tuned to the NextMMAFighter for live updates of the fight results and play by play as it happens. If the wireless network is sufficient at the venue we will also try to do a Justin.TV live broadcast so stay tuned for that information.

Nick Kosvok vs Rusty Crowder – Amateur MMA

Rusty is looking to score early but Nick tags him with a straight right that stuns rusty. Rusty survives and rushes to meet Nick. Rusty goes low for a takedown and Nick gets him in a guillotine. Rusty is able to defend from the submission and work to pass the guard. Nick shrimps his hips out effectively and gets to standing. Rusty attacks with a flurry and Nick is the one to get the takedown now. Nick is unable to pass and stands. Rusty lands a leg kick and straight right which he follows with another takedown. Rusty is able to get to half guard and continues to work. The time expires just as Rusty passes to side control.

2nd round Nick catches one of Rusty’s body kicks but doesn’t do much with it. Rusty rushes in with another flurry and gets another takedown when Nick covers up. Rusty works some body strikes from top position and is ultimately able to pass to mount. He works for an arm and Nick narrowly evades an armbar. Rusty is tenacious and maintains control of the arm which he uses to transition into a triangle that Nick is able to escape. Nick momentarily takes Rusty’s back but Rusty is able to reverse and get Nick’s back. The round ends with Rusty in control.

Nick is behind in points and he knows it. Nick was looking for an opening early in the 3rd round but Rusty attacks with another flurry and get it to the ground. Rusty lands in an ideal position for an D’Arce choke and works for it for first half of the round. Rusty maintains control for the rest of the round and the time expires.

Matt Pierce vs John Downing – Amateur MMA

Both fighter start with some push kicks and John lands a good right hand. Matt comes back swinging with the worst of intentions and really wanting to end it 3early. Matt is block ing the low kicks with his hands and it’ll prove a huge liability. John is looking for a takedown and manages to connect with one when Matt approaches with some strikes. John circles quickly to take the back when Matt tries to roll for an escape. John is able to isolate and arm and apply a quick armbar for a tap.

Matt Sword vs Josh Downing – Advanced Amateur MMA

Josh lands a sold left early in the fight and crushes Matt in the corner. Matt rebounds and gets on top of Josh in side control Matt was able to stack Josh to try to pass the guard but Josh switched his hips quickly and sink in an armbar. Really slick work by Josh on the ground.

Russ Bennis vs Josh Parker – Advanced Amateur MMA

Josh is a terror and assaults Russ quickly getting him to the ground to work some ground and pound. Russ is working franticly from the ground for a triangle or any sort of break in the action. Russ is able to stand but Josh is tenacious and rushes to meet him in a clinch with knees and punches on the inside. Josh is expending a lot of energy early in the fight and Russ is seeing that. Before he’s able to capitalize however Josh is able to pick him up and slam him. Russ works his way out again and they get to standing. Russ is able to defend form the takedown and land some strikes before the end of the round.

Round 2 Russ is able to land some good strikes early in the round but Josh goes low again and gets the takedown. Josh is able to keep the fight on the ground for the most part but Russ is finally able to stand. Josh is tiring and getting sloppy on his takedowns. Russ starts to pick him apart with punches and kicks. Russ survives another expedition to the ground and the round ends.

Round 3 Russ lands a strike and goes for a takedown of his own but they end in a clinch. Russ disengages and is able to land more strikes from the outside. Josh manages yet another takedown and works to North South. After some body strikes Josh finds the energy to pass to the mount and deliver more strikes before the time expires. During the groundwork here Josh had grabbed the fence and was warned twice before the ref took a point away.

David Curby vs Brandon Brown – Pro MMA

Brandon shoots a takdwon early in the fight that David weathers rather well. Brandon was able to complete it and get dominant position but David scrambled and got back tot standing. David is probing with stiff jabs but Brandon is doing a good job of avoiding the strikes. David is throwing some big TKD kicks but Brandon is avoiding them deftly. Brandon manages a takedown and works for an armbar quickly.

Urarahy Rodriguez vs Joe Carroll – Pro MMA

Urarahy gets a takedown after some posturing and ends in Joes guard. Urarahy works some GnP from the guard. Urarahy is landing stiff shots form the top and is working to pas. Urarahy gets to half guard. Joe gets back into a butterfly guard and postures up for more strikes. Urarahy passed to side control and works for a front headlock when he got to north south. Urarahy lands a punch as they disengage. Urarahylands a few big punches and knees in a clinch that stun Joe. Urarahy gets Joe to the ground and lands some more big shots from the top.

Joe is on the attack early in the 2nd round but Urarahy opts for the takedown and they are back in Joe’s guard. Ururahy is conserving his energy by not delivering a lot of strikes here in favor of improving position. When he can’t pass he lands 2 big hammer fists and postures up for more of hte same. Joe is keeping a really active guard with punches form the bottom and heel strikes to the back of Urarahy. Joe is able to stand and Urarahy gets a takedown quickly. Back to Joe’s guard. Joe gets up again and Urarahy unleashes as high kick but missesl. Urarahy follows with another takedown, this time with Urarahy in side control. Urarahy is keeping Joe on his back but unable to finish thus far. Joe is as tough as they come and can take a lot of punishment. They get to standing and Urarahy attempts a big flying knee to close the round that misses.

Round 3 they’re keeping it standing to start and swinging for the fences. Urarahy closes the distance and lands a big trip that brings them down hard. Urarahy gets to side control again but is unable to put a submission or strikes together. Joe gets him back into guard but loses it to side control very quickly, this time Urarahy is able to pass to mount and then the back. Urarahy locks in the RNC quickly and effectively.

Nick Smiley vs Bobby Peavler – Pro MMA

Nick lands a leg kick early and Bobby eats some shots looking for a takedown. Bobby is finally able to get to the ground and Bobby gets into side control. Bobby gets knee on belly and passes to mount. Bobby works some strikes, but Nick is able to walk up the cage and nearly get to standing. They scramble and posture for position. Nick gets it to standing and lands some good strikes further frustrating Bobby even further. Bobby makes desperate shot from pretty far away. Nick is tired and lands with his back against the cage. Bobby works in a guillotine and got a tap.

Eric is a reputed kickboxer and Steve is approaching with his hands at his hips. Steve has no business in the ring here. Eric is having some success with push kicks and leg kicks. Eric puts together some decent combos and stuffs 2 takedowns. Eric is finally able to deliver the merciful knockout blow and it’s over faster than the walk-ins.

Rusty Riddle vs. Will Bolt


Rusty leads with a low kick and Will follows. Rusty comes back with a strike that stuns Will and drops him. Rusty rushes to meet him but is swept to the bottom. Will ends up on top and passes to side control easily. Will works for a knee on the belly and gets to the mount. Will uses some strikes to the body to soften Rusty up and isolate and arm. Will went for an Americana and Rusty slipped out the back door. Back on the feet Rusty lands another straight right and they get back to the ground. Will gets to the mount quickly this time and throws body blows until the round ends.

Round 2 begins and Will shoots early to get it to the ground. Will is in Rusty’s half guard working some body strikes. Will passes to side control and works more body shots. Rusty is rolling his eyes, but isn’t winning the fight. Will steps over the head and puts on a triangle from side control. Will taps out, visibly upset.

Lee Cain vs. Joey Ward


Joey’s the lankier guy, keeping his distance. Lee is picking his spots and looks like a brawler. Joey shoots a double and they get it to the ground but Lee stands quickly. Lee comes in for some wild punches and Joey clinches to deliver some hard knees. Joey attempts a guillotine and jumps guard but didn’t have the sub in place. From guard Joey uses a tight closed guard and Lee stacks him. Joey attempts an armbar and quickly transitions to a triangle and secures it tightly.

Eric Heegard vs. Brad Cole


Gloves are touched and Brad throws a few kicks to the body to get it started. Brad lands a punch combo that drops Eric and he follows him down to finish. Eric lifts the legs and tries for an armbar that Brad defends easily. Brad is able to pass to side control and work his way to north-south, Eric turns and Brad attempts a guillotine that Eric pops out of ending in top position over Brad. Eric passes the guard to mount and Brad explodes out and into Eric’s guard where the round ends in that position.

Brad lands some good strikes early in the 2nd round and in a surprising turn Eric shoots a double-leg that lands. Eric is able to work to the north-south position quickly. Brad moves him to his side which proves disastrous. Eric pins his arms and starts dropping bombs. Eric postures up and rains down blows until the ref puts a stop to it.

Shea Taylor vs. Kevin Keller


Kevin secures a takedown rather early in the action and works to escape a headlock in half guard. Kevin works some body blows from the top and Shea sweeps powerfully. Shea appears very strong for his size and is able to dictate the fight on the ground. Shea is unable to mount anything significant and stands up. Kevin lands some leg kicks and Shea answers with some stiff punches that eventually take them to the ground. Shea works for a guillotine that Kevin escapes and Shea takes his back. Shea is working an RNC when the time runs out.

Round 2 begins as Shea lands some more stiff rights and lefts on the feet. Kevin gets on his bike shoots in where Shea meets him with a deep gullotine.

Seth Colwell vs. Gabe Leatherman


Seth comes out swinging and Gabe tries to lock him up. Gabe drops for a double and they get to the ground. Gabe is all over him as Seth is scrambling and escaping as best he can. Gabe gets close with an arm triangle and RNC within seconds of each other. The pace is brisk with these guys grappling all over the ring. THey slow a bit when Seth is able to get Gabe in his guard. Seth is able to get up for a moment but Gabe is relentless and trips him back to the ground.

Round 2 begins and Seth is wary of the takedown as he tries to keep his distance. Gabe shoots in and is able to clinch for a moment. Seth stays standing and they trade some shots when they disengage. They close, grapple and Gabe attempts a guillotine that takes them to the ground. Seth escapes and is able to take Gabe’s back. Seth works for an RNC for some time but is unable to secure it. Gabe flips him over and gets in Seth’s guard. Gabe is unable to pass before time expires.

Round 3 starts as they clinch and Gabe lands a strong knee. Gabe gets a body lock and takes Seth to the ground.Gabe works to try to pass the guard and gives up an arm that Seth takes advantage of by way of an armbar attempt. Gabe is able to lift Seth off the ground and slam him to release the hold. Gabe is back in Seth’s guard and Gabe is only able to get to half guard before the time runs out.

Sean Wilson vs. Stephen Upchurch


They trade leg kicks and Stephen gets a body lock. Stephen tries to take Sean to the ground but Sean is able to maintain his balance and ultimately land on the ground in Stephen’s guard. Sean works for some time to pass the guard but is unable and Stephen finds a spot to escape to standing. They clinch and Sean gets a wizzer. Sean gets into Stephen’s guard once again and time runs out then.

After some jabs exchanged, it turns into a wrestling match as the fighters try to take each other down in favorable positions. Stephen is able to get Sean’s back for a moment but Sean escapes and maneuvers into top position in Stephen’s guard. Stephen uses a kimura to stand but is taken down again shortly after. Stephen is able to turn the tide and get into side control over Sean. Time runs out before he is able to attempt a submission or strike.

Round 3, Stephen comes out with a few punch combos that Sean shrinks from. Sean is able to close and get underhooks to get Stephen to the ground. Sean works to take teh back when Stephen escapes and gets into Sean’s half-guard. Stephen was able to pass ultimately to mount and then the back to deliver some strikes before time expired.

Dwayne shoots immediately and is reversed by Dustin. Dustin is able to work some Ground and Pound from half guard and then stands up for striking. Dustin lands some strikes and goes for a takedown when Dwayne nearly gets the upper hand. After some sweeps and reversals by both fighters Dustin ends up in half guard again and working some vicious strikes with elbows and punches to the head. Dustin finally lands one Jon Jones-like elbow that turns the lights out.

Andrew Higgins vs. Philip Schenuk


Andy shoots for a single early in the action, he’s able to elevate Phil high enough for Phil to try to lock in a triangle before getting slammed onto the mat. Phil keeps a tight closed guard and Andy picks him up to slam him again. For the next minute or so Andy works strikes to the body but is unable to pass Andy’s guard. The ref stands them up and Andy works quick to clinch and take Phil down. Andy works a little GnP until the round ends.

Round 2 starts as Phil is able to stuff Andy’s first shot. They remain standing in the first minute or so and trade jabs and probing strikes. Phil missed a kick and ended up on his back where Andy gets down to meet him. Andy is unable to progress and the ref stands em up. Andy clinches up with Phil and gives him a side suplex to the mat. Andy quickly takes advantage and mounts Phil. Andy rains down punches and isolates an arm to perform an armbar where Phil taps quickly.

Johnny Buck vs. Sean Kilgus


Johnny starts with a few leg kicks as Sean shows him a few as well. They trade leg kicks for the opening minute and a little longer until Johnny attacks with a flurry. Not many shots were landed in Johnny’s flurry but he pressed the action. Shortly after the flurry he drops for a double leg takedown but stood up, being unhappy in Sean’s guard. On the feet, Johnny lands a solid shot that drops Sean but he recovers quickly and the round ends.

Round 2 starts as neither fighter is really able to find their stride. They trade some mostly ineffectual strikes and the crowd is getting tired of it. Johnny presses the action once again and is able to catch Sean off balance to get him to the ground. Johnny works some GnP from half-guard. After some work there he is able to pass to mount and deliver more punishment with elbows and punches. The ref puts a stop to the fight less than a second before the bell for the round.

Andrew Montanez vs. Joe Merit


The fighters feel themselves out tentatively, neither committing to a strike or tactic. Andrew exlodes into a double and gets Joe to the ground. Andrew was working to pass the guard when Joe was able to turn the tide. Andrew keeps a pretty active guard but Joe is staying heavy on him. Joe does some damage from the guard but favors the feet and stands. Joe lands some decent strikes on the feet but Andrew shoots for another takedown and they go to the ground where Andrew is able to pass to mount and throw some strikes on the ground. Andrew attempts an armbar very late in the round but Joe is able to escape.

Round 2 starts as Andrew baits Joe, who eventually bites to throw some strikes. Andrew drops for a double and we’re back on the ground. Andrew postures for some strikes and tries to advance his position when Joe reversed him and got into Andrew’s guard. Joe got an advantageous position over Andrew and started to drop heavy elbows, unfortunately they were directly to the back of the head. Andrew developed a big cut. A point was deducted and Andrew was given some time to recover. Back to the action, Andrew is able to take Joe down again. Andrew passes to mount and deliver some strikes from the top before the round ends.

Round 3, Joe initially sprawls and stuffs Andrew’s first takedown. Andrew was still able to turn Joe and get him on his back. Andrew passed to mount and got some shots in before Joe gave up his back. Andrew got him spread out and landed shots repeatedly until Joe gave his verbal submission.

Main Event Championship Belt Winner Anthony Nieves

NextMMAFighter was sitting ringside live for last nights fights and this was a fantastic show. The production value was top notch as they were filming for a DVD. The crowd was pumped up and it was a great night of action. Our photographs and round by round descriptions are listed below.

124 lb amateur muay thai
Eve Giselbach (Resurrection MT) vs Colleen Louima (HardKnox MMA)

Colleen comes out with some big right hands while Eve sets up combos with leg and body kicks. Eve weathers shots well and positions herelf to deliver some flurries. Colleen regains her composure and backs up to charge up big right hands. Colleen tries to use the open spaces to her advantage and deliver shots from the outside. Eve keeps moving into short range and delivering strong combos. Colleen clinches to protect. The round times out in the clinch.

Round 2 Colleen comes out strong with big punches that connect well. Colleen resumes her gameplan of keeping range and striking form the outside with reaching lefts and superwoman rights. Eve is gushing blood from her nose and is having a tough time with the range that Colleen is creating. Colleen shows strong conditioning as Eve’s strength wanes.

Round 3 begins with gloves touching and the fighters going back to range. Eve steps up and is met with a huge right from Colleen. Colleen flurries to try to finish but Eve’s chin is tough. Eve is unable to close the distance and Colleen delivers a number of strong rights till the time expires.

Paul Gabelman (LA Boxing) vs Marcus Aviles (Gracie Barra)

Paul is the first to act with some probing jabs. Marcus flurries to close range and get into a clinch. Looks like Marcus takes a punch and bleeds profusely from the nose. Paul overpowers him and gets his own takedown. Paul stands almost immediately. Paul throws jab after jab and meanwhile Marcus sends a desperate haymaker that doesn’t connect. Paul delivers some good combos and defends a takedown that ends in a guillotine attempt. Paul releases it in favor of standing at range and delivering jabs and leg kicks until the round ends.

Round 2 Marcus begins with a leg kick and gets Paul to the ground. Paul lands on top and stands soon after. Marcus delivers a few punches that Paul takes in stride. Marcus shoots for the takedown but is stuffed by Paul who attempts a guillotine on the exposed neck. Marcus is unable to escape and taps.

Josh Alexander (Evolution MT) vs Jessie Williams (Resurrection MT)

Jesse certainly looks to be in better shape and shows some destructive push kicks and straight rights early on. Josh is slow to strike and gets turned form the push kicks that allow Jesse to strike the exposed face and body. Jesse controls the round with similar push kick and 1-2 combos. Later in the round Josh shows some fatigue and Jesse switches to flying knees over the push kick to close distance instead.

Round 2 shows Josh with more life throwing a leg kick and 2 punch combo. Jesse in unfazed and returns with a barrage of strong punches one of which drops Josh momentarily. Josh survives the standing 8 count. Jesse counters Josh’s kick attack with stronger leg kicks that drop Josh again. The round ends just after Jesse delivers a strong knee to Josh’s left side.

Jesse is on the attack early in round 3 with more push and leg kicks. the welts on Josh’s legs don’t look pretty. Josh is dropped by a knee and survives the 8 again. Jesse clinches for a few devastating knees. Josh turns to retreat and is met by Jesse’s right fist. The shot drops Josh for the last time. The round ends during the 10 count.

Jesse Williams by unanimous decision and discloses in his post fight interview that he’s only been fighting for 5 months. Kid has some of the hardest kicks i’ve ever seen.

175 lb amateur MMA
Jonathan Cobb (Genesis MMA) vs Steve Hall (X3 Sports)

Steve Hall throws a kick

Hall throws a few sharp jabs at the start. Cobb favors the ground and shoots for a takedown that Hall prevents by bouncing off the turn buckle. They separate and trade a few shots. Cobb shoots a double and drives him into the mat across the ring. Cobb defends a guillotine and starts attacking the body from half guard. After some inactivity, the ref stands em up. Hall rushes to deliver some strikes and connects with a big head kick that drops Cobb. Cobb hits the autopilot and shoots for a takedown. Hall catches him in a guillotine and leaps up on top of Cobb to secure it. They come to the ground and Cobb taps soon after.

Moe Travis (KnuckleUp) vs Jessica Ohmann (HardKnox)

Moe Travis lands a strike

Both ladies are content with standing and trading punches for the first 20 seconds or so. Moe manages to clinch and deliver some knees to the body. Jessica disengages and Moe throws some reaching right hands. Moe is slightly limited by her reach bu puts her head down and throws to close distance. While in close range Moe throws some good right crosses and transitions to a clinch to throw knees to the body. Jessica is having trouble connecting with anything substantial this round.

The second round is more of the same: Moe closes range and throws big punches inside. Moe then catches a body kick and trips Jessica hard. Jessica stands and is met by more punches and knees in the clinch. Jessica barely misses with a spinning backfist that the crowd erupts at. Moe sticks to the apparent gameplan the rest of the round and delivers some great knees to the body.

Moe has a terrific clinch and exhibits textbook knees to the body. Moe is the shorter fighter so she must use her arms and gravity to pull Jessica’s head to striking range. Moe finishes strong with punches and more knees.

Alex Durkin (Genesis MMA) vs Sid Bargo (X3 Sports)

Sid throws a single overhand right that looks to have connected some but throws nothing else until Alex goes for a take down. They exchange shots in the clinch and Sid is finally able to trip him to the ground. Alex pulls guard and mitigates Sid’s attack somewhat. Alex raises the rubber guard and throws some punches form the bottom to little effect. Sid tries to posture up and get some room to throw strikes but Alex keeps hooking his legs and lowering his hips.The round ends with Sid in Alex’s guard.

Sid starts the round with a big left that misses. Alex closes and clinches but throws an errant low knee to the groin. Sid recovers and Alex comes out with a haymaker that barely misses. Alex goes for a takedown and Sid locks in a guillotine. Alex is able to defend it and end in top position. Sid defends well and goes for one more guillotine this round. Alex is unable to do anything significant from top position and the time runs out.

Fighters come out to touch gloves and Alex throws a immediate inside leg kick. They trade some missing shots and Alex shoots for a takedown. Sid is able to stuff it and get a takedown on his own terms, falling into the mount. Sid delivers some punches from the mount and Alex gives up the back. Sid locks both hooks in and goes for the rear naked choke. Sid is unable to finish the fight in regulation time but finishes extremely strong.

Sid Bargo wins by unanimous decision.

Paul Tran (Bangkok Boxing) vs Serge Grubnyak (Hard Knox)

Serge begins with a solid leg kick followed by a body shot. Paul throws a good body kick which Serge counters with a trip. After some time in a clinch Paul hits Serge with a huge right. Serge is able to recover in the clinch. Serge delivers some strong leg kicks and on a missed attempt throws a spinning backfist that connects. Paul throws with heavy hands and Serge clinches to avoid taking more damage. Time expires in the first round.

Serge delivers a body blow and combos with a right straight. The round ebbs and flows with efforts from both fighters in the form of Serge’s body kicks and Paul’s punches. Paul delivers a left hand that drops Serge. Serge recovers and throws a left of his own that stuns Paul. Each fighter is swinging for homeruns and most strikes go wide. Paul is caught again and stumbles against the ropes but recovers.

Paul is the aggressor in the 3rd round leading with punches and locking in a clinch. Serge moves into a counter posture and strikes as Paul closes distance. Neither fighter is able to establish an edge and a couple clinches get broken up before time expires.

Serge misses with a headkick and Paul punishes him with a body kick to the liver. they trade some jabs and some solid body kicks. Paul favors the clinch when he’s unable to do damage and throws some outside knees to the body. The round runs out after a few stalemate clinches.

Ronnie Rogers (Evolution MT) vs John Cofer (HardCore Gym)

Cofer begins with a head kick that gets blocked. Both fighters wary of each other. Roger throws a leg kick and Cofer immediately shoots. Roger tries for a guillotine but Cofer escapes. Cofer tries some ground and pound in Rogers’ active guard. Roger attempts an armbar that Cofer easily escapes. Cofer postures for more GnP but is unable to do damage. Cofer stands and leaps over Rogers’ legs to deliver a punch to the face. Cofer lands in half guard and works some more punches. Rogers is able to get up. No strikes are exchanged for about a minute when Cofer rushes with a leading left into a double leg. Roger hops up into a guillotine and they go to the ground. Cofer escapes and the round times out.

Cofer starts with a punch combo that ends with a single leg and trip to bring Rogers to the ground. Rogers immediately pulls guard and gets some punches and elbows for his trouble. Roger is active from his back but Cofer maintains his composure and is able to deliver some good shots to the head. After getting stood up Cofer delivers a body kick and solid leg kick. Roger answers with a flying knee but is caught in the air and slammed. Roger is working his hips for an opening but Cofer is defending well. They are stood up and the time expires soon after.

A minute into the 3rd round each fighter misses with a headkick and Rogers explodes with a flurry. Cofer shoots for a takedown and ends on top. Cofer is unable to do any considerable damage and Roger gets up. Roger engages in another flurry that knocks Cofer off balance and onto the ground. Cofer sweeps to top position but is unable to capitalize yet again. Roger finally feels comfortable at range and lets his hands go a few times. Roger is able to knock Cofer down again and works some good GnP from top position. Cofer is able to get a high guard and defend from damage rather well. The round times out with Roger in Cofer’s guard.

Mike McClendon (Bangkok Boxing) vs Kevin Brooks (Genesis MMA)

Brooks has McClendon against the ropes

Mike uses his fast hands early to land some shots. Kevin clinches and they trade knees for a time. They are separated and Mike uses his lanky frame to attack from range. Kevin throws some heavy hands and clinches. Mike throws some good knees in the clinch. Kevin stalks as Mike throws techniques from the outside: leg kicks, body kicks and some jabs.

Kevin comes out in the second round more comfortable and establishes a good range for punches. Kevin is able to control Mike in this round in both the exchanges and the clinch. Mike comes back with a flurry that includes an apparent elbow to the back of the head and gets a warning. Kevin stalks him for part of the round and delivers some solid punches that send Mike’s mouthpiece into the 2nd row.

Kevin sales out of his corner with a flying knee. Mike backs up and tries to deliver the outside shots but Kevin is picking him apart at close range against the ropes. Kevin backs Mike into a buckle and delivers 6 or 7 solid leg kicks before Mike can answer with anything substantial.

In the 4th round Kevin stalks Mike down with leg kicks and punches. Kevin’s heavy hands and ring control prove too much for Mike and he submits to a TKO.

Frank Millsap (KnuckleUp) vs Marius Cujba (X3 Sports)

Cujba lands a huge throw

The fighters trade some ineffectual body kicks and jabs when Marius is able to land an insane judo throw and get Frank’s back. Marius delivers some shots from the back and flattens him out enough to do some good damage to the side of the head. Frank gets softened up sufficiently and Marius sinks in a rear naked choke.

Anthony Nieves (KnuckleUp) vs Ryan Peace (Contemporary MA)

Nieves delivers a big kick

Nieves immediately displays quick feet with shots to all parts of Peace’s body. Peace’s response is limited while Nieves attacks on multiple levels with hands and feet. Nieves dominates this round but is unable to seriously damage Peace.

Nieves was slower to start this round and just when it seemed Peace was not willing to mount an offense he explodes with a great head kick and flurry of punches that gets Nieves into trouble. Serious blows are exchanged between the two for the remainder of the round. Peace brings some solid punches and the occasional head kick that keeps Nieves guessing. Nieves’s speed is still a factor and he manages to land good jabs and leg kicks.

The third round had the fighters exchanging serious blows with Peace edging out the action with a tactical knee strike to the liver. Peace’s corner erupted with shouts for more knees to the area but Nieves was able to protect himself at the cost of his offense. Peace certainly dominated the round.

Body shots. It was all about body shots in round 4. Nieves responded in kind and targeted Peace’s liver. With precise strikes Nieves downed Peace 3 different times with shots to the body. Nieves prevails and takes the Bangkok Boxing middleweight Muay Thai belt.
