AMATEUR BOUTS

170lbs | George Ansloan vs. Earl Waller

The fight begins and both combatants wrestle for position in the clinch. Ansloan is delivering knees to the guts while clinched with Waller returning knees of his own. Waller is able to use the cage to take down Ansloan down and he delivers some big shots to the body. Ansloan tries to work for a submission from his back, but Waller is strong from the top and controls him for the remainder of the round.

Round 2 begins and Waller staggers Ansloan with a shot as they go to the ground once again. Waller transitions from the back into half guard and works towards mount. Waller moves to side control and throws some punches to the chest even though the face is wide open. Lets remember this is an amateur fight, so head strikes on the ground aren’t allowed. Event without strikes to the head Waller is controlling Ansloan and does so till time runs out on the second round.

Round 3 begins and waller delivers a left hook that again staggers Ansloan as they go to the ground again. Once there its more of the same Waller is controlling from the top and punching the body hard looking for the pass. Waller gets to mount and delivers some big gutbusting shots to the body as Ansloan tries to hold on. Waller delivers some more punishment for the remainder of round 3 controlling from start to finish and decisively winning this fight.

Waller wins by Unanimous Decision

Heavy | Tyler White vs. Jesse Chestnutt

The fight begins and Chestnutt comes charging across the cage as White meets him with some hammer fists to the top of the head. As they go against the cage Chestnutt finishes the takedown and works to mount. White escapes back to the feet and both fighters are already showing signs of fatigue. White is again looking for this insane looping overhand that starts from above his head and he cocks it multiple times before throwing it. The round ends with Chestnutt throwing a flurry of hooks as the bell is sounded. This is going to be a wild one as long as it lasts.

Round 2 starts and White is throwing strikes as Chestnutt looks for a takedown again. It doesnt take long before Chestnutt is completely out of gas and backs against the cage waiting for whatever White offers. White is able to take Chestnutt down as much as chestnut falls and while there he delivers a number of elbows causes the referee to halt the action. Elbows in any position are illegal in Georgia amateur rules. The fight is stopped for a moment as a point is deducted. The fight resumes and they go back to the ground as White throws punches till the round ends.

Round 3 begins as Chestnutt looks for a takedown but White sprawls. From this position with Chestnutt still trying to finish his takedown, White pushes his head down towards the ground and moves immediately to mount. White delivers some big shots from mount until it is clear that Chestnutt is absolutely done. White allows Chestnutt up where he delivers a huge left that is unanswered and the ref calls Chestnutt out on his feet.

Tyler wins by TKO (referee stoppage due to unanswered strikes) @ 2:32 of R3

140lbs | Joel Porter vs. Jovan White

The fight begins and these guys are getting after it quickly after the opening bell sounds. Porter executes and finishes a takedown and they wrestle for position on the ground. Both fighters are working through submissions to see what works and Porter settles on a triangle from the bottom. White escapes as Porter then holds on for an Armbar but White picks him off the canvas and slams him down again. As they scramble to recover White is able to reach for a guillotine and drops to guard squeezing tight and finishing the fight.

White wins by submission (Guillotine Choke) @ 1:26 of R1

185lbs | Derrick Braxton vs. Brad Johnson

The action begins on the feet as Johnson comes out with big leg kicks. Braxton takes them and circles his opponent before he delivers a big left that staggers Johnson. They go to the mat, and once they are here Braxton is controlling the pace. Johnson initiates a sweep and postures up to deliver some shots from the top to the body of Braxton. They go back to the feet and Johnson is looking for a shot that Braxton is able to sprawl out of easily multiple times. Braxton holds off the takedown until the round ends.

Round 2 begins with Braxton looking for some bombs on the feet and Johnson wants no part of this as he shoots in again and is able to finish the takedown. Once on the ground both fighters work into a heel hook position that they both try to finish with before Johnson aborts and sits up to try and pass. Braxton sweeps and lands in side control as he works for a kimura that is able to secure which quickly causes the varbal tap from Johnson.

Braxton wins by submission (Kimura) @ 2:22 of R2

PROFESSIONAL BOUTS

135lbs | Shane Weinischeske vs. James Wynn

The fight begins and Weinischeske is throwing some combos on the feet which he follows with a head kick. Wynn shoots in for a take down and Weinischeske is able to hold on for a guillotine. Wynn disregards the guillotine and picks Weinischeske up as he slams him to the canvas. Once on the ground Wynn is able to control the pace as he is out wrestling Weinischeske and is looking for a rear naked choke. Wynn is looking to pass, but Weinischeske is smart fighting off his back. Wynn lands a big elbow and then moves into position for an arm triangle which he tries to finish with but Weinischeske endures until the round ends.

Round 2 begins and while both fighters briefly trade strikes, its clear that this fight is going to the ground. Wynn scores another takedown and lands in side control where he is connecting with some ground and pound from this position. Wynn is working some more strikes when he looks to posture up and this is the opportunit Weinischeske needs as he escapes. Ending in a turtle position, Weinischeske is trying to escape to the feet as Wynn is trying to look for an RNC. They wrestle into the north south position and Wynn is able to grab for what looks like a guillotine but then you see the leg go to the hips for the peruvian necktie, forcing Weinischeske to tap out at the end of the round.

Wynn wins by submission (Peruvian Necktie) @ 4:55 of R2

Heavy | Bobby Peavler vs. Mont McMullens

The fight begins and Peavler shoots in for a takedown which pins McMullens against the cage. Peavler uses this position to mount McMullens and throw a few strikes as he positions himself for a guillotine attempt. Peavler is able to move to side control from here as McMullens continues to try and buck him off. For a big man Peavler is very comfortable on the ground as he moves into multiple positions on top of McMullens as he looks for a submission finish. Peavler is able to transition to side control where he finds a submission he has been looking for and finishes the fight by Kimura.

Peavler wins by submission (Kimura) @ 2:29 of R1

Heavy | Stephen Eakin vs. John Richard

Richard rushes in and then pulls Eakin into a clinch where he delivers some big knees to the guts. Richard is then able to wrestle Eakin down where is is throwing some big shots from the top down to Eakin and they are connecting. Eakin is able to regain his composure and look for a triangle from the bottom. Richard then decides to try his luck on the ground and jumps into side control. As he is being controlled on the ground, Eakin gets up and then hits Richard with a big shot. With Richard staggered from the punch, Eakin works towards a choke position which Richard defends but not without taking some punches to the side of the head. This fight is clearly taking a turn in Eakins favor as he finishes strong on the feet to end the round.

Both fighters come out to begin Round 2 and Richard immediately moves in for a shot which Eakin defends momentarily. Richard is patient and is able to finish the takedown where he quickly postures up and goes to deliver some more downwards shots but is met by a stiff upkick from Eakin . Richard is starting to get more comfortable on the ground as he holds Eakin down while staying busy with strikes to the body. Richard loses his mouthpiece and the ref calls a halt in the action. Once the fight is resumed Richard attempts a takedown which Eakin defends and the sheer force of two tired fighters brings them to the ground again where the round comes to an end.

Round 3 starts and Eakin ducks some punches before he muscles a tired Richard to the ground. From here, Eakin he works to a north south which he then postures up from and pins Richard against the cage. Eakin is able to trap the hand of Richard and delivers strikes until the referee stops the fight by TKO.

Eakin wins by TKO (Strikes) in R3

185lbs | Josh Eagans vs. Aaron “Tex” Johnson

Johnson begins the fight with a big head kick that surprises Eagans.Johnson then uses this opportunity to charge with a crazy flying knee Which Eagans blocks. Eagns brings the fight to the ground and Johnson tries to finish by triangle from the ground. Eagans is able to sweep and take Johnson’s back where Johnson defends the chioke but eats about 20 punches that he cant defend due to Eagans pinning his arms. Johnson shakes these punches off but is unable to shake off Eagans who continues to work from Johnson his back trying for choke. The round runs out much like it started, with Eagans on Johnson’s back but unable to finish the fight from this position.

The round starts as Eagans this time is the aggressor early on and brings a head kick which Johnson blocks . When Eagans tries to shoot, Johnson meets him with a big knee that Eagans appears to eat in the process of putting Johnson on his back again. Eagans is delivering some big shots from the top but when Johnson starts striking from the bottom, I lose my mind as both fighters are pummeling each other and continue for about 20 seconds. The pace settles and Eagans continues to deliver some effective ground and pound from the top. Johnson is looking for submissions from the bottom but Eagans is defending all of them. Eagans continues to work from the top as Johnson weathers the storm until the round ends but not before taking some big shots once again.

The round starts and both fighters throw a flurry of shots before Eagans takes the fight to the ground again. While Eagans is staying busy from the top, Johnson is patient is is able to sweep Eagan about half way through the round. Eagans then goes for a triangle that he flips Eagans over with as he actually postures up while still holding the submission. Eagans will not give in and flips Johnson to his back. Still being in a good position for the triangle, Johnson settles on a slick armbar attempt. The crowd is absolutely deafening as Johnson looks to be very close to finishing with the armbar as Eagans winces but does not tap out. The toughness of these guys is not in question as I was sure that Eagans had his arm broken, but he kept on fighting through it. Johnson finishes the round strong and comes very close to finishing but its not enough as Eagans holds on for the decision win.

Eagans wins by Unanimous decision

That’s it for us from Douglas GA. Thanks to Rampage 2010 for putting on a great show.

April 16th, 2010 Jeremy No comments

War Machine, Regular Jackass

I would love to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but would I be an idiot to do so? He claims on his twitter that he has the staphs which no doubt sucks, but you have to keep the promoter informed in my opinion.

NextMMAFighter learned that there was no contact from Mr. Machine to the promoters of the event he was scheduled to headline tomorrow night. We know that the Wild Bills fight will still be a success and hope that Aaron “Tex” Johnson is able to find another fight soon.

The fight card for Wild Bills Fight Night 26 is now as follows.

Here is the official press release from David Oblas’ Undisputed Productions.

For the past month everyone in the MMA community has been asking….is it still on? Is War Machine vs Tex Johnson on Saturday, April 17 at Wild Bill’s still on? The answer is YES!!! Despite War Machine’s recent arrest outside a San Diego bar that landed him on TMZ and a spit bag over his face, the fight is still on for Saturday, April 17!

In February of 2009, he legally changed his from Jon Koppenhaver to War Machine. He had one of the best fights in the history of MMA PPV. He’s starred in a porn movie with Digital Playground. He’s several times faced legal action outside the cage. To raise money for his attorneys, he’s put on ebay all his memorabilia from his MMA fights including some of his most personal items – his liver, his kidney and his sperm for sale!

And on Saturday night, the MMA legend known as War Machine will come to Atlanta to fight local standout Tex Johnson in the main event of Wild Bill’s Fight Night!

Wild Bill’s Fight Night is not new to the spotlight of the MMA industry hosting many of the country’s top fighters, and with that controversy has not been far away either. The last Wild Bill’s Fight Night featured Junie Browning, one of MMA’s most controversial fighters. After hosting Junie in the main event, War Machine had to be next!

But the War Machine vs Tex Johnson fight was in jeopardy only last week when War Machine was arrested at a San Diego bar for allegedly carrying deadly weapons, which turned out only to be his fists! See TMZ story by clicking here.

Now it’s on for Saturday, April 17 and War Machine will bring his 10-3 record to Wild Bill’s to fight the 6-2 Tex Johnson in his hometown.

They touch gloves, and Lee starts with a few slow leg kicks. John is hesitant to trade, but does come in to clinch. Lee is able to defend a takedown and throws some punches when they disengage. Lee puts John in a guillotine and works to a submission. John is able to stay in a favorable position and not get submitted. John gets his head out, and the fighters get to standing. Lee misses with a jab and John is able to stun him. John grabs Lee and gets mount after a rolling throw. John gets into half guard, but works a decent guillotine that Lee is able to get out of. John brings up his guard and locks in a textbook triangle, but time runs out of the round.

Lee continues with the leg kicks, and John weathers them. Lee misses with a haymaker and John stings him. John takes advantage of the downed fighter and moves to take the back. John is able to get the mount, and as he’s setting up an armbar, Lee quickly stands. John is comfortable on the feet and throws some punches. Lee jumps guard but does nothing to finish. John lets him up and moves in quickly to clinch. John delivers an unintentional low blow and Lee takes a minute. John catches one of Lee’s kicks and goes down hard. John is finding paydirt with punches of his choice. Lee clinches and throws a few knees as John drives him to the fence. Lee works for a guillotine, and they go to the ground as time expires.

Round 3, Lee swings for the fences with everything, while John maintains his composure. John lets Lee up after he knocks him down and then goes at him with punches and knees. John drops him again and lets him up. Lee is dropped a third time, and finally the ref intercedes.

John Tanturri defeats Lee Kelly by TKO (stoppage), Round 3, 0:49.

Alton Tyner vs. Sam Grosse, 135 lbs

Sam begins with some left-right combos that land decently and follows with the clinch and some knees. Alton maintains his composure and returns knees in the clinch before he lands some punches, and then they disengage. Sam shoots a takedown that Alton stuffs, and the latter immediately locks in a guillotine. Sam works to escape only to have it locked in further.

Alton Tyner defeats Sam Grosse by Submission (guillotine), Round 1, 1:05.

Spanky Woods vs. Jeremy Wallace, 185 lbs

Note: Spanky walks in to “Tom Sawyer” by Rush — BADASS.

Spanky rushes in and takes a shot to get the takedown. Spanky ends up on his back, but, typically, is pretty active there. Jeremy pushes him to the fence and tries to post up for some strikes to the body. Spanky has a pretty active guard and works to destabilize Jeremy. Jeremy escapes to standing and lands a one-two shot that Spanky is able to absorb, going in for the takedown. Spanky works for a single leg, but Jeremy is completely sprawled out. Spanky steps over the leg and is able to get Jeremy’s back. Spanky sinks in the hooks and works for a RNC. Jeremy turns into guard, and Spanky finds an armbar attempt. Jeremy defends until time expires.

The second round begins the same as the first: Spanky rushes in and takes some shots to get the fight to the ground. Jeremy is able to get a superior position, but Spanky is active. Jeremy finds himself in a tough spot and stands. Jeremy and Spanky meet in the center and Spanky gets dropped a few times. The ref basically gives him a standing 8 count, which is weird. Spanky has a tough chin and stands up with seemingly little damage. He works a push kick and some jabs to maintain distance, but gets slammed by Jeremy after one of the exchanges. Jeremy is able to maneuver into mount, but is unable to do anything with it and the time expires.

3rd round: Spanky is less inclined to start by taking shots. He is able to maintain his distance, but still takes some hits and goes to the ground. He turns and shoots a single to get Jeremy down. Spanky is able to wrestle into an over-under position. He moves to take the back and attemptds an armbar; he nearly completes it when Jeremy pulls the arm out. Jeremy jumps right back onto Spanky in side control and rains some punches down on Spanky’s side when time expires.

Jeremy Wallace defeats Spanky Woods by Split Decision.

Mike Gallese vs. Stephan Hullander, 155 lbs

Stephan begins with a superman punch immediately after touching gloves. Mike wants to take it to the ground, but Stephan seems adept at escaping to standing. Stephan works some one-two combos and superman punches to close distance. Stephan uses an arm circle to bring Mike to the ground and work some punches to the ribs. Mike is unable to mount any sort of offense. Stephan prefers to keep it on the feet and stands. The SponsoredFan.com ring pad comes lose and time is called; the promoter himself is fixing it from the outside of the ring.

They time back in, and Mike immediately attacks with punches. Stephan weathers some blows and they stall in the clinch. Both fighters appear tired and trade lazy strikes. Mike throws a body kick that is caught, and he eats a straight right that drops him. Stephan doesn’t take advantage, though, and they get back to standing. Mike is breathing heavily and Stephan works the clinch until time expires.

At the beginning of the 2nd round, Stephan throws a big right with bad intentions. Mike works some hooks and knees and is able to dodge the rights effectively. Mike jumps guard and they go to the ground. Stephan posts up to strike the body but is caught in an armbar.

Mike Gallese defeats Stephan Hullander by Submission (armbar), Round 2, 0:51.

Daniel Norton vs. Dustin McKown, 205 lbs

Note: McKown walks in to “Pants on the Ground (remix)” – that guy from American Idol.

Previous to the round, Dustin’s corner leans over and predicts a knockout. Let’s see what happens.

Daniel has some quick feet and throws some probing jabs when Dustin shoots for a double. Daniel sprawls and maintains his base. They engage in a hook battle, and Dustin is able to get a body lock and subsequent takedown into side control. Dustin gets a leg over and momentarily takes mount. Daniel explodes and turns into Dustin’s guard. Dustin appears pretty gassed, having expended a lot of energy for the takedown. Daniel postures up and escapes to his feet. Dustin wants none of the action on the feet and keeps his knees down while Daniel readies for him to stand. Dustin continues to shoot takedowns but appears pretty gassed, and Daniel catches him with a guillotine.

Daniel Norton defeats Dustin McKown by Submission (guillotine), Round 1, 2:50.

Demitrice Turner vs. William “Bobby” Hallman, 145 lbs

Note: Demetrice walked in to “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins. The song did not reach the drum solo, unfortunately.

Hallman shoots a double quickly, but is unable to complete the takedown. Turner has a good sprawl, but Hallman is able to pull a switch, and when Turner turns to meet him, Hallman attempts a guillotine. Turner pulls his head out and gets back to standing, and then Hallman attempts another shot that lands him squarely in Turner’s guillotine. Turner pulls guard and Hallman taps quickly.

Demetrice Turner defeats William “Bobby” Hallman by Submission (guillotine), Round 1, @ 1:05.

Dustin “Diablo” Walden vs. Sean Dyer, 155 lbs

Dustin starts with a snappy leg kick, and Sean moves in to the clinch. Sean misses a throw and gives up his back momentarily. Dustin is unable to capitalize, and they go back to square one. Dustin comes in with some punches, but Sean gets a takedown and works for Dustin’s back, then rolls out for a knee bar, which Dustin avoids. From here, they each work for an ankle lock when Dustin escapes to top position; Sean rolls again and goes for another toe hold. Now Sean gets up and is caught in a triangle, and Sean turns and is able to escape with Dustin still in his guard. They jockey for position some more and Sean is able to get on top; however, Dustin locks in another triangle that puts Sean to sleep before he’s even able to tap.

Dustin “Diablo” Walden defeats Sean Dyer by Submission (triangle choke), Round 1, 3:14.

Harris Norwood vs. Blake Bowman, 155 lbs

Harris keeps his hands pretty open and assesses the standup. Blake throws some head kicks but doesn’t connect. Harris is staying elusive until Blake shoots a double and they go to the ground. Blake works him to the fence and throws some shoulder strikes but is unable to do much damage. Harris has a triangle body lock and controls the wrists. Harris connects with an upkick while Blake is posturing, stunning him severely. Harris jumps up quickly and connects with a combo and subsequent clinched knee that KOs Bowman.

Harris Norwood defeats Blake Bowman by KO, Round 1, 2:15.

Aaron “TEX” Johnson vs. Bernard “Ruffneck” Rutherford, 190 lbs

Ruffneck comes out all smiles and Tex hits him with a pushkick. Ruffneck shoots a double and brings Tex down with a slam. Tex works for an armbar immediately, but Ruffneck escapes. When Ruffneck comes down to attack, Tex locks in another armbar. Ruffneck defends and gets back to standing. The fighters trade punches in the center of the ring, where Tex shoots for a takedown. He is able to get Ruffneck down and get into the mount, posting up for another armbar. Ruffneck pulls the arms out and stacks him. Tex keeps a very active guard and works for a second and a third armbar in the same fashion. The third misses, but he falls back to a triangle and soon secures it. Ruffneck taps.

Aaron “Tex” Johnson defeats Bernard “Ruffneck” Rutherford by Submission (triangle choke), Round 1, 3:01.

Byron Bloodworth vs. John Quieroz, 143 lbs

The fighters size each other up to start. Byron controls the center of the ring and throws a big leg kick. John drops levels with a single and gets a takedown, then moves to half guard. John rains down some blows to the head and Byron is able to get back to full guard. John brings some body shots from the top while in the guard. John is using his leverage to drive Byron to the fence and compress the head and neck. Byron gets his hips out and John is able to get an under-gooch [TM] and body slam him to the mat. John works to pass the guard and gets side control, when Byron gives up his back. John gets both hooks in and works for the RNC from Byron’s back. He drills the ankle into Byron’s midsection repeatedly to loosen him up. John is able to sink the choke in, finally, and Byron taps.

John Quieroz defeats Byron Bloodworth by Submission (RNC), Round 1, 4:02.

That’s all for us at Battle of Rome in Rome, GA. We hope you enjoyed the fights, and we will see you at the next fight here in Southeast fight country.

The round ends as it began with Smith on top of Cespedes.

Collin Smith wins by submission (Guillotine Choke) in Round 2

Patrick Krepper vs. Travis Lord 155lbs
PC186526

Round 1

The round begins with fireworks as both dudes are throwing hands looking for the early KO. Travis stays cool while Krepper throws a bit wildly. Lord connects with some uppercuts before landing a wicked knee to the guts that rocks Krepper and causes him to cover up. As Lord continues to fire away while Krepper is clearly in trouble, the ref has no choice but to stop the contest.

Travis Lord wins by TKO (Strikes) @ :59 of R1

Bryant Cullens vs. Timm Wilson 147lbs
PC186598

Round 1

The round begins and Cullens calmly works towards a clinch, pinning Wilson in the corner. He then throws some big body shots followed by some big right crosses that land cleanly. The knees continue as Cullen demonstrates some excellent muay thai clinch and knees. Wilson now returns some knees as they continue to clinch and then pulls off a MONSTER judo throw crashing Cullens to the mat. Wilson then continues to work towards mount and strikes the face which is not allowed in standard GA Amateur MMA. The round comes to a close on the ground making it a close one for sure.

Round 2

Early in the round Wilson throws a big head kick which Cullens defends and returns fire with some uppercuts. The two fighters continue to exchange on the feet until Wilson begins to lead with his head as Cullens continues to punish him with uppercuts. This leads to Cullens seizing the opportunity to go for a standing guillotine and amazingly pulls it off with both fighters standing, ending the fight.

Bryant Cullens wins by submission (Standing Guillotine) in Round 2

Mike Alvarado vs. Donald Clack 190lbs
PC186661

Round 1

Both fighters exchange combos to begin the round, neither fighter landing anything huge. They continue to feel out each others range and look for an opportunity. Alvarado lands a big shot , stunning Clack then follows that by throwing straight left after straight right looking to end the fight. Clack survives and answers back with some more heat but time runs out on a great opening round.

Round 2

The second round begins and both guys come out looking to throw some more bombs and Clack rocks Alvarado big time. Alvarado shakes it off and responds with some big shots, having with find its mark, dropping Clack backwards into a sitting position as he covers up. His hands are up and blocking but the ref runs in stopping the fight. Right as this happens, Clack bounces up and appears to fine but the fight has been called to a halt.

Mike Alvarado wins by TKO (Strikes) in Round 2

Donald Lipscomb vs. Humza Mutaalio 182lbs
PC186697

Round 1

The two fighters come to the center and begin to feel each other out. Mutaalio throws some flashy kicks Lipscomb defends them easily. They then go to the clinch and Mutaalio lands a big time knee right in the Twig and Berries. This stops the fight briefly while Lipscomb puts his junk back into his cup, it was a terrible nutshot. Once the fight continues Mutaalio lands a big slam and begins to work for a submission but Lipscomb gets into position to attempt a kimura. The two fighters stay busy on the ground till the round ends.

Round 2

Round two starts and both fighters meet in the middle as Mutaalio works some knees from the clinch. Lipscomb pulls him in close enough and then scores a big takedown. He moves to side control and begins to work for a Kimura once again. Mutaalio survives the Kimura attempt and takes Lipscomb’s back followed by muscling him down as he delivers some big shots from the top position finishing the round strong.

Round 3

Round 3 begins and Mutaalio continues to fight calm and collected. Lipscomb catches Mutaalio off balance and follows him to the ground working to a north south position. Mutaalio scrambles and ends up on top once again delivering punishment from the top position as Lipscomb tries to defend but the continuous barrage of punches forces the referee to step in stopping the fight.

Humza Mutaalio wins by TKO (punches) in round 3 @ 4:03

Justin Barnwell vs. Gerry Tena 147lbs
PC186831

Round 1

This fight starts out with Barnwell throwing some good looking kicks that don’t quite find the mark. Tena withstands them and moves inside. Meanwhile a very agile Barnwell then jumps on his back looking for an RNC but it’s not there. Tena then slides him off and begins to work some big ground and pound. Barnwell withstands the strikes and the referee stands them up. The fighters then continue their frenzied pace and both fighters throw some crisp combinations as they stand and trade. The end to a great first round comes to an end.

Round 2

The round begins and the fast pace of this fight continues on the feet until Barnwell shoots in and takes Tena down. From there Barnwell works into mount and the quickly transitions to Tena’s back. From here they then get entangled in what can only be described as a double armbar/triangle attempt. Its nuts but you can see the above photo and judge for yourself. The round ends by Barnwell throwing some shots to Tena while they are both in this compromising position.

Round 3

Round 3 beings and as Tena approaches Barnwell, he is surprised by Barnwell quickly pulling guard. They then spend nearly the entire round with Barnwell working a triangle while Tena is trying to punch him through the ropes near the turnbuckle. As Barnwell continues to work the triangle from the bottom he is getting punched by Tena around the ropes. The ref realizes the disadvantage due to the ropes and puts them in the middle of the ring where they finish out the 3rd round of a very exciting fight.

Justin Barnwell wins by unanimous decision

TJ Harris vs. Jerrid Burke 157lbs
PC186890

Round 1

Round one begins with both fighters clearly wanting to make their paycheck on the feet as they both throw some big punches. Burke settles in with a low leg kick he wants to use to set up something bigger. Once Harris begins to catch it and counter they both go back to throwing bombs. This can only continue for so long and Harris finds himself on the business end of a big right from Burke. The punch lands clearly on the jaw and it drops him to the ground instantly ending the fight by KO.

Jerrid Burke wins by KO in Round 1

Chris McNally vs. Mike Israel 187lbs
PC186933

Round 1

Round one begins and both fighters touch gloves followed by McNally working towards a takedown. Isreal makes his way back to his feet and continues with a takedown of his own slamming McNally to the canvas. Once on the ground they both wrestle it out with McNally working towards a kimura which Israel defends. Once inside Israel’s guard, McNally postures up and drops some punches with a few finding the mark. He sinks back into Israel guard and the round ends.

Round 2

Round 2 starts with McNally putting Isreal in a tough spot as he brings a big flurry of punches but Isreal hangs in there. Isreal then goes for a inside leg trip that nicely takes McNally to the ground. However once there, McNally demonstrates some great wrestling and works towards a triangle. McNally slowly gets it tighter and tighter before Isreal taps out, ending the fight.

McNally wins by submission (Guillotine) R2 @ 1:08

PROFESSIONAL MMA

Joe Carroll vs. Lance Dickson 157lbs
PC186968

Round 1

The fight starts with a frenzied pace and Dickson stuns Carroll a bit on the feet. As a result, Dickson then follows him to the canvas dropping some more strikes from the top. Carroll stays calm and works towards an armbar which he gets and holds on to even after Dickson tries to posture up for an escape. This puts Dickson in an even worse position as Carroll holds on and leaves Dickson no choice but to tapout. A frenzied fight that obviously wasn’t going to last long one way or another comes to an prompt end. A great way to start off the pro fights!

Joe Carroll wins by submission (Armbar) at :42 of R1

Johnny Buck vs. Aaron “Tex” Johnson 187lbs
PC187001

Round 1

The fight starts and no time is wasted between both fighters. Buck is going for a takedown and he gets it. With Buck in his guard Tex wastes no time, grabs Buck’s right leg and cranks back with a brutal heel hook calling a quick end to the bout. I’ve seen Tex fight many times, always exciting and very quick.

Aaron “Tex” Johnson wins by Submission (Heel Hook) @ :13 in Round 1

Roger Carroll vs. Dave Mewborn 190lbs
PC197050

Round 1

Carroll starts the fight by delivering some low leg kicks that Mewborn shakes off. Once in the clinch, Mewborn scores a big taketown and both fighters wrestle to a stalemate. Once back on the feet Carroll scores a takedown while both fighters look to work to a submission with no luck. Near the end of the round Mewborn rolls Carroll over and gets very close to an armbar but Carroll rolls out of it taking the fight back to its feet. The action on the feet is brief before Carroll scores a big judo throw which he turns into a guillotine. Just when it looks like Mewborn is done for, he fights out of the guillotine amazingly and begins to Ground and Pound inside Carroll’s guard.

Round 2

Round 2 starts and Mewborn comes out swinging, Carroll has no choice but to weather the storm until Mewborn takes him down and again goes to work in his guard. From here Mewborn throws some elbows to the head and then goes to work on Carroll’s left arm looking for a kimura. Carroll gets to his feet but when both fighters throw a kick at the same time Carroll gets the raw end of the deal. As he is throwing a leg kick of his own, he is kicked in mid air and falls to the ground. Mewborn follows him down and wrestles into a north south position. From here Mewborn works hard for a D`Arce choke which he works in nicely finishing the fight.

Mewborn wins by submission (D`Arce Choke) @ 2:53 in Round 2

Sin City Fight Club in Atlanta, GA | 10-10-09

October 9th, 2009 Jeremy 1 comment

Sin City Fight Club is one of the premier promotions that has settled into the Southeast. This Saturday night they will be putting on a the first bouts of a tournament-style card that will continue over the next few months. The series promises to answer the question of “Just who is the baddest cage fighter in the Southeast?”

This tournament will feature many previously covered fighters from our blog, including Sponsored Fan fighter Tex Johnson.

NextMMAFighter will be covering the fight live and hosting photographs from the event later that evening. Here is the official press release from Sin City Fight Club Productions.

ATLANTA, GA September 22, 2009- William “Soco” McAlister, of Roswell, Georgia, may very well become Atlanta’s best -know sports promoter by the end of only his first year of producing fights in the city. His company SIN CITY FIGHT CLUB (SCFC) is the premiere Mixed Martial Arts event production and coordinating company in the Southeast. SCFC fights blend a sexually charged, high energy Vegas style atmosphere with Extreme Cage Fighting Events.

McAlister, a Florida native, sold out his first fight at Atlanta’s Center Stage in midtown this past May. Looking forward, Sin City looks likely to repeat their success with their forthcoming Redline Grand Prix Round 1 competition being held at Center Stage on October 10th., 2009.
Redline is sponsoring the series of three contents produced by Sin City over the next few months. The series promises to answer the question of just, “Who is the baddest Cage Fighter in the Southeast?”

The tournament is Georgia’s first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) series to reward the winner with over $12,000 dollars in total cash. The competition will pit eight of the Southeast’s toughest 185 pound cage fighters in a three bout, single- elimination tournament to determine who can claim they are the undisputed best of the region. Each bout will consist of three 3 minute rounds. The second bout of the tournament will be held on Friday, the 13th in November. The third and deciding bout date will be in January of 2010.

The talent selected to compete in the Redline Grand Prix tournament are a hand picked group of diverse individuals who share a history of winning, a hunger for a higher level of competition, and a desire to be labeled among the best of southeast rapidly growing professional MMA athletes.

Fighters included entered in the Redline Grand Prix include Aaron “Tex” Johnson, George Allen, Douglas Lima, Clint Hester, Scott Harper, John Troyer, Eddie Hernandez and Cortez Colemen. Also on the undercard are local favorites, Eddie Walker, Elliot Teimann and Stephen Upchurch, Jeremy Wallace and Sid Bargo.

Aaron “Tex” Johnson, the local “bad boy” of MMA, is a former football player and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon DO. Johnson has finished his last three fights in less than a minute and a half–combined!

Johnson is excited to fight under McAlister stating, “Soco’s production level’s quality is rivaled only by the U.F.C.”

Johnson is pleased that Sin City, “Goes the extra mile when it comes to making the sport’s fans participate in his programs. Sin City hosts pre and post fight events where fans are allowed to meet the fighters and party with winners,” says Johnson.

Another fan favorite participating again in Sin City’s next fight is Clint “Headbuster” Hester. Hester, who once participated in unsanctioned illegal underground fights, says “Soco is by far the most legitimate promoter of the sport I have worked with to date.” He (Soco) cares about his fighters and really loves the sport.
His fights provide a energy charged Vegas-style fight atmosphere previously unavailable for the sports fans in Georgia,” says Hester.
