Featured Fighter Interview | Will Kuhn (X3 Sports) Professional record 5-3

July 22nd, 2010 Jeremy No comments

We got a chance to speak with Will Kuhn who will be fighting heated rival Jeff Boudreaux this Saturday night at Wild Bills Fight night 29. Will is an exciting up and coming fighter who will be sure to put on a great fight on Saturday Night.

NextMMAFighter : Will, thanks for taking the time to talk to us, why don’t you tell us about your next fight.

Will Kuhn : Ive been training hard and I am ready to fight. I cant wait to get in the ring on Saturday night at Wild Bills.

NextMMAFighter : There’s some animosity between you guys. Where did this come from?

Will Kuhn : I think most of the animosity is on his side. I think its just from our previous fights being canceled.

NextMMAFighter : You have been fighting pretty regularly this year. Do you think his ring rust will play a part in the outcome?

Will Kuhn : I don’t think so. Jeff has had a really good camp and I’m sure he will be well prepared

NextMMAFighter : You have an underrated ground game, getting most of your wins by submission, but Jeff has been competing and has his purple belt in BJJ. How do you keep the game in your world?

Will Kuhn : Ive fought a Gracie Barra Brown belt along with a state champion wrestler winning both fights. With that being said, Jeff is probably the best at Wrestling and BJJ together, so ill just have to keep it standing and punch him in the face.

NextMMAFighter : Who do you train your BJJ and wrestling with?

Will Kuhn : I have my blue belt under Steve Headden, but I am currently training both Wrestling and BJJ at X3 sports in Marietta.

NextMMAFighter : Who do you train your standup with?

Will Kuhn : Along with my ground game, I also work my standup at X3 sports.

NextMMAFighter : 2 guys you have losses to in the past are now training partners, Patrick Mandio and Steele Mc Call, is that right? What brought you to X3?

Will Kuhn : Yeah its great to be able to train with those guys now. We all train at X3 for the same reason, good training partners and great instructors.

NextMMAFighter : Name the top 3 guys at 170 in Georgia. How do you get to the top?

Will Kuhn : I’m not quite sure how I can answer that besides fighting my way to the top. Who knows, maybe there will be a 170 grand prix and we will all find out. I would definitely fight in that tournament!

NextMMAFighter : You’ve fought quite a bit this year already; do you have anything lined up after this?

Will Kuhn : After this fight, I plan to take a break till fall and set something up then. As they always say, one fight at a time.

NextMMAFighter : Thanks again for talking to us. Do you want to take the opportunity to thank anyone?

Thanks to all my friends, training partners and everyone at X3 Sports for helping me get ready for this fight.

Tickets are still available to see Will fight on a great card Saturday night at Wild Bills Fight Night. Click here to buy them from ticketmaster.

Featured Fighter Interview | Steele McCall | X3 Sports (7-1 Amateur Record)

June 11th, 2010 Jeremy 5 comments

Steele McCall is a dynamic amateur fighter who is 7-1 in his career with 5 wins by first round stoppage. We were fortunate to catch up with him before his fight tomorrow night at Fight Force 1 in Hiram, GA

NextMMAFighter: Steele, thanks for taking the time to speak with us before your fight on Saturday. Tell us about your training and your gym X3 Sports.

Steele McCall : No problem at all. Training has been going great and since I also work at X3 sports I find myself here 7 days a week. The training schedule starts as early as 8 am some days, but every day we are all working as a team to make each other better in boxing, BJJ, muay thai, and all around MMA. Not to mention all the conditioning workouts that we go through with Cory Bridges, our strength and conditioning coach. I have to say we have the best team in Atlanta.

NextMMAFighter: You are going into this fight at 7-1 in your amateur career. How have you been able to keep this streak going?

Steele McCall : Actually I am 7-1 and every one of my fights have made me just a little stronger and wiser each time. This happened especially after my one loss which I feel made me into a better fighter in the long run. Now I am just working my butt everyday to learn more and grow as a fighter and never lose again.

NextMMAFighter: Tell us what you know about your opponent and how you see the fight playing out.

Steele McCall : Actually I don’t know much other than that he has a Karate background. I’m just glad I get the chance to get back into the ring again, since I’m ready to go out there and do my thing.

NextMMAFighter: Without giving away your game plan, what do you think is the strongest attribute as a fighter.

Steele McCall : My work ethic for sure. I mean I would not be stepping into ring unless I have put the time into my training. No matter where the fight goes, I feel I’m going to pressure this guy and find his weaknesses.

NextMMAFighter: Up to this point in your career what is your the one moment you will always remember?

Steele McCall : I will always remember my one loss. Especially leading up to the fight and afterwards. I will never make the same mistakes again and so far I am a completely different fighter today than when I was a year ago. I’m much for confident in my abilities, I have improved upon my weaknesses and in the process gotten so much stronger as a fighter.

NextMMAFighter: As we strive to find the best up and coming fighters, what sets you apart from the rest?

Steele McCall : I can’t speak for the other fighters, but as for me, I love this sport. I love training, sparring, learning, competing, etc. I got into BJJ right after highschool and after a few weeks of that I started to learn about MMA. I didn’t even have to think about it and I knew I wanted to do it. After meeting Tony Tucci my head coach, and getting into training hard, I was hooked. Were now at 5 years later and my passion for the sport has grown even more.

NextMMAFighter: Our coverage generally focuses on the southeast fight scene, how do you think the MMA scene is progressing in this area of the country.

Steele McCall : Georgia has a huge fight scene, especially in Atlanta and the surrounding area. We have a ton of great schools and fighters all close to each other. And in truth, I think because we are all close to each other we make each other so much better. Every month there is another fight to go to for each gym to showcase their fighters. Here at X3 sports, we have so many guys, pros and ams, making each other better fighters. Georgia is definitely the best place in the southeast to come to train and watch local MMA fights.

NextMMAFighter: Who are some fighters past and present that you look up too and why?

Steele McCall : I look up to my head coach Tony Tucci, who has taught me so much about MMA. I also look up to guys like James Thorpe, Kevin Gittemeier and Tom Ngyuen who have each been the top fighters in Atlanta MMA. These guys have all helped me out before when I’m getting me ready for my fights. On the UFC level I have to say I love watching guys like Forrest Griffin and Alan belcher fight. The guys who have worked hard to get where they are today all inspire me to keep working hard at what I do.

NextMMAFighter: After your big fight on Saturday, what are your plans for the future? With an stellar record such as yours, you must surely be considering turning professional.

Steele McCall : Pro is definitely in my future and I feel after this fight I will be making that jump into the pro levels. I’m ready for the step up in competition.

NextMMAFighter: Thanks again for the time and best of luck in the cage on Saturday night at Full Force 1 in Hiram, GA. In closing is there anyone you would like to thank?

Steele McCall : I would like to thank all my coaches and all my teammates at X3 sports for beating me up in the gym. I would also like to thank my fiancé, my friends and family for their support.

Come catch Steele battle it out tomorrow night at Fight Force 1 in Hiram, GA. See you there!
